Sending friend request to women you don't know

CSB Facebook story I know...

But a female friend of mine posted recently that after she changed her FB profile picture to a photo that showed her in low-cut shirt, alone, she started getting "dozens a day" of friend requests from males she did not know. Along with messages from many of these same males, of a suggestive nature.

This particular individual is married and has been for several years. Her husband is prevalent on her FB page. I have no idea how visible her FB page is to non-friends.

After she posted this, within minutes, she had at least a dozen other women who commented, basically, that the same thing has happened to them, and it's become more prevalent lately.

So, is this a thing? Men somehow scroll through FB pages of women they don't know and send them friend requests?

I can tell you, other than some bots pretending they are women, I haver never gotten a FB friend request from a woman I have never previously known or met.

Also, sending these would be a huge beta move, right?
