Be up front about the title lien.

Weed out the freaks by making them leave a VM. Only return calls of people who don't ramble, don't have a foreign accent, and don't mention anything about owner financing or trades.

Do you have a new vehicle already picked out that you're waiting to buy?

Reason I'm asking is because of sales tax. You need to crunch the numbers in how much you'll save in sales tax if you trade it in.

Your best option is to do a courtesy trade. You get the best price for your Taco and the tax savings.

Depends on the price point. Are you selling it for under 5000? 10000? 20000? Will the buyer likely pay cash or need a loan? All
These things can add extra headache whixh then makes it worth it to trade.

I see why people trade them in.

Yeah, me too. Keep in mind, if it is Louisiana, that You're sales tax liability is reduced by the value of your trade. SO you need to sell your vehicle for at least the value of the sales tax more than your trade offer to break even.

So if state and local sales tax is 10% and they offer you $10,000 then you need to sell yours for $11,000 privately to make up the difference. Then determine what your time is worth and the headache factor. I traded last time.

ETA: Courtesy trade may be the best of both worlds if you have a buyer prior to purchase.

Well you apparently are happy with whatever's the lot, more power to you.

You're right, I do pay sticker...but as is with the case of our new vehicle we're getting it is EXACTLY what we want. If I get $1500 off a vehicle that has $4000 of options I don't want, did I get a deal?

Already 'bought' it. Have the VIN, it's being shipped.

It's close to 30k, I think yea this buyer will take out a loan. If they have cash we can go get the title...but otherwise I think banks will have to talk. I financed through a local credit union, Keesler, but they are usually accommodating.

Have you done all of the paperwork yet?

Too late to do a trade or courtesy trade?

Dude, on trade (or courtesy trade) that's almost 3 grand in sales tax saved.

To me if I'm paying $500 a month for 5 years I should at least get WTF I want.

This doesn't compute. A fully loaded F150 probably comes in around $40K tops (unless you pay sticker, and apparently you do) anyway, a modest down payment and you're getting this truck for FAR less than $500 a month unless you're financing for 3 years or something?

Hell, last year I bought a fully loaded 2017 F250 Crew Cab, the only option it doesn't have are the diesel engine and the dually rear wheels. It stickered for $70K , I paid $61K , put $10K down and my payment is less than %500 a month.

Unless you financed that for 9 years, your numbers don't add up.

$61k - $10k down = $51k to finance

$51k / $500 a month = 102 months

102 months / 12 months = 8.5 years

Haven't done the paperwork, I can contact our 'salesman' and discuss trade in options. I doubt he gets within 3 grand of my asking price though. They don't want a manual truck I'm sure.

I say 'salesman' since we 100% bought this car online.

If you can't sell your vehicle at your house or right next to it, I wouldn't sell it yourself. Don't meet people, make them meet you and call you when they arrive.

I just sold my daily work driver beater, Honda Accord. I had 6 people the first 3 days say they had cash in hand and set up a time and they never showed up. Make them put in the effort and be there before you go out of your way.

I'd list just above what you will take. Tell people the price you will take. No reason for them to look at it or waste your time if they won't pay what you want.

Lastly, be patient. Weed out the idiots. I've found you need a good 2-3 weeks usually to get the right buyer that will pay what it's worth. The first week to 10 days you'll often get a lot of idiots low balling. Lot of guys flip cars too, so they'll low ball quickly to see if you'll just move it.

Eta: it's stressful, you just can't be a nice guy and bend over. Set a price, be firm with people asking dumbass requests like for you to drive it 5 hours for $50, etc.

You like minimalist type stuff and to some people that's cool, but not all. As evidenced by our truck not selling.

You aren't Elvis.
