I take Effexor and that is not a medicine you can stop taking cold turkey. I’m shocked you haven’t experienced other, more noticeable side effects. Even skipping 1 day by accident gives me a dizzy sensation in my head and I immediately know that i forgot to take the medicine.

You need to reach out to your doctor’s emergency line and let him/her know the last time you took your meds and that you need to meet with him/her immediately for a refill. This is URGENT.

I have had a pharmacy provide me with an emergency 3 day supply in the past while they waited for my Rx to be sent in. It’s definitely something you can request.

I have to stress to you again how dangerous it is that you’ve stopped this medication cold turkey and you have to immediately get in touch with both your pharmacy and your doctor to make them understand 1) how long you’ve been on the meds and 2) how many days you’ve missed.

If you experience any thoughts, feelings or side effects that make you uncomfortable, please immediately reach out for emergency care. Also, please let a family member or friend know the situation so they can also keep an eye on you to observe any concerns you may miss.

Good luck.

So my question for the OT pharmacists / psychiatrists. Is it possible for me to go to my pharmacy tomorrow and ask for an emergency prescription for a few days worth?

Honestly surprised your doc wouldn’t call you in a prescription to bridge the gap for a few days until your appointment. I’d call your doctor back

This is exactly what I would do. A PCP may also fill a gap prescription if needed.

I was on a pretty strong dose of Effexor for a couple of years, I also had an instance where I ran out and on the second day, I was in a very dark place, sweaty, the withdrawals for me were horrible.

Definitely talk to your doctor and let them know what you were going through.

We have the right to fill an emergency script without a new prescription from the doctor if the patient has been taking the medication. We also have the right to give a few days to hold you over.

Go to the pharmacy and explain the situation to the pharmacist. An experienced one will help you. Effexor is not a control drug.

Why aren’t you putting your next appointment in your phone’s calendar with a reminder ahead of time?

That’s what adults do, at the time it is made.

I feel like this past week was the worst scenario for depression. From running out of meds, to working a few days in isolation, to the cold and ice which caused more isolation.

I think cold us a depressive effect on most people who aren’t used to it.

And I think you should go to a TRT clinic.

Effexor can be brutal after a few days without it.

OP, hate to say it but Effexor is one of the worst meds to come off of and definitely don't want to do cold. turkey.

Curious what you think of it. There are other options I would recommend that are much more benign.

Congrats on being an adult. Since I didn't have an issue on my previous 15 visits, I didn't think it was necessary to go to an even higher level of adulting.

Okay, lesson learned. NEVER do this again. I've been taking Effexor and now a generic. I learned the hardway about stopping, not taking it. Do not go more than one day without taking it --ever.

Surely your drugstore will provide a few more.

Yes, the pharmacy, at their discretion, can give you 2-3 pills while you await your formal refill.

To the 10 people that up voted this comment, my pharmacy gave me 3 days worth to get me through the weekend.

1. get back on the med asap, call your MD's office or pharmacy and explain your situation

2. Be extremely careful, once you get back on the med, it takes around 2 weeks to get back into equilibrium. These 2 weeks are when bad things can happen.

I was in Effexor for 10+ years. It took me over 3 months to ween off. 150 to 75 then cut those in half then every other day. Lots of caffeine in the morning, Gatorade zero, vitamin B & d, and melatonin at night. It’s was 3 months of shitty living.

They are legally able to give you a 3 day emergency supply. It is at the pharmacists working discretion though. If they see someone hasn’t filled meds in 3 months after picking up a one month supply or should have ran out 3 weeks ago they might not loan you any.

Not sure who you fill scripts with, but situations like this it benefits to use an independent. If they know the doctor and know you well, they may look the other way and “take a verbal” to give you enough to last until your appointment. No chance other than the 3 day loaner supply at a big box pharmacy

Didn't read whole thread, but if you've filled same Rx there previously they will usually give you a few days worth. It is possible, yes. (for that type of med, not a scheduled or opiod)

You have a good head start to ditch this trash. You should stop taking it.
