Looked it up on wikipedia. It was pictures of the victims in the trunk. Long time ago now

This guy killed, mutilated and even ate some victims. Kept body parts as souvenirs.
One of the worst dudes ever.
May his victims rest in piece....

Didn't Louisiana have 3 serial killers that were active at the same time?

There were 3 in Baton Rouge alone at the time. If you throw in Ronald Dominique in Houma/Thibodaux, that makes 4.
Not a serial killer but happening in the same time period. So crazy.

Dude's gonna shite when he finds out about Brandon Scott Lavergne.
Don’t forget about Ronald Dominque aka Bayou Strangler on the Bayou. He killed over 16 dudes over about 15 years to satisfy his fantasy. It started in Kenner in the late 1990’s and moved to Lafourche and Terrebonne in the early 2000’s.

Great memory. A lot of people in these threads over look this one.
I remember when these cases were all being solved while I was at LSU. I was convinced they may kick Louisiana out of the Union/United States if we kept it up.

Yeah very much remember the 2000-2006 period in Baton Rouge. There were two high profile serial killers in town simultaneously.
Probably at least one more that has remained under the radar and eventually died or got pinched for something else.

With how badly BRPD has been gutted, I wouldn’t trust them to recognize the pattern of a serial killer right now in 2024. And there likely still isn’t good inter department cooperation and communication between cities and parishes.
IIRC Zachary PD solved the DTL case. The state and federal task force based in Baton Rouge had their fancy FBI profile and they were not interested in looking at black men. The big boy cops insisted that it was a white , mid/high IQ blue collar guy that was either single or divorced. They even insisted that he drove a white Chevy work truck based on tire tracks they found at a crime scene that also happened to be near a fricking boat ramp frequented by plant baws - many of which were issued white Chevy work trucks.
Meanwhile Zachary PD got a DNA sample of their favorite suspect (who happened to be black). Once they got the swab the suspect left town right after. It ended up being a match. DTL was black, lower IQ, and married. He drove a compact Japanese car and never owned a white Chevy work truck. He did have a “show truck” in the early 1990s when he started his hobby of killing people though, but that was a decade or more before anyone realized there was a serial killer.
DTL was on Zachary’s radar for a long time. He was a suspect years and years earlier in an attack in a grave yard of all places in Zachary where the victims survived. He was also a known peeping Tom. Creepy AF and kind of nuts that the task force didn’t think to look at him. Little Zachary PD did.

That’s the pics he took of her body, posing her after he killed her. There was no victim in the trunk when he was arrested

Correct. There is a book about it that I still have somewhere.
He claimed that he picked his girlfriend up at work at a c-store with a body in the trunk of a Chevy Cavalier sedan (a passenger couldn’t see what was in the trunk). But he was not caught with a body in the car. Lots of forensic evidence in the house though. He cleaned up after his activities but not very well. And he took pictures.
Apparently Gillis claimed that he was traumatized as a child after finding out that his dad was a homo or a cross dresser in New Orleans. Can’t remember the details. From what I understand Gillis was bullied a lot as a child.

I still can’t believe how well some people can wear the mask faking people out while the true person behind said mask is so dark and evil.
Serial killers are pretty much all sociopaths who have no empathy for their victims, so that allows them to compartmentalize those feelings and function in their private life without setting off alarms that people can pick up on. I've seen a lot of true crime shows and almost to a man, they are some seriously twisted fricks with no compassion for their victims and their only regret is getting caught.
Look at Dennis Rader aka the BTK killer. He was a compliance officer for his town, a high ranking church official, boy scout leader and according to his family----a real nice guy and great father. His true self came out when recounting his murderous spree in open court prior to his sentencing. He was so cold and methodical in recalling how he killed his victims that he showed no more emotion than if he was giving a recipe for baking a loaf of bread---------and he relished the attention he was getting.
Gary Ridgway aka The Green River Killer who wanted to be known as the most prolific serial killer in history who claimed to have killed around 80 women but was convicted of 49 murders. He was married 3 times, had a steady job at Kenworth painting vehicles for over 30 years and was well liked by his fellow employees.
Ted Bundy was a real piece of work too. I've seen and heard many interviews with him talking to law enforcement officials and he mostly talked in 3rd person when recounting how he stalked and killed his victims. It was just a way to kind of distance himself from the acts he committed.

Painters are almost always crazy. They should be high up on the suspect list any time there is an apparent serial killer.

Dont remember hearing about him until now, damm.
You are either much younger than me or much older. There was a lot of media coverage over him and Derek Todd Lee. They were both active in the same parts of south Louisiana at the same time.
