At worse, the teacher should have talked to the kid afterwards on how to use that word properly.

Wait. This is no longer the proper term? "Transgender" is no longer PC? I'm so confused.

You can tell if the child understands what they are saying or not or if they were trying to be offensive or not. There isn't anything wrong with the word transgender. It just may be an opportunity to teach some tact.

My son said the "f" word as a third grader because he had read it on the bathroom wall. He didn't know what it was but still I was called. He apologized .

Yeah let's go making up stories for a 6th grader to go lie to the teacher about to try and get the teacher and administrators to feel bad...

What a fricking douchebag.... Hope you don't reproduce

And I bet you are one who likes to bitch about folks always having their feelings hurt and being "triggered"

you should definitely do this. it's probably not the best parenting move, but it would be very funny and awkward.

He should write:

"I have no idea why it is offensive. I am 12 years old. Why don't you write me a three page essay on why it is offensive? I will promise to read it before I take it to the school board and my attorney. Good luck in your next career."

I could see a kid saying this even not knowing what it means with all the gender news that has been front and center the last year. How many other words would he know that sound like transitive?

WTF is supposed to be offensive by "transgender"?....Unless this is some religious school.

It's a politically correct term. If I were his parent, I'd be at the school the next day.

He should write an essay explaining that he does not subscribe to the restriction of non-obscene words currently being advocated by our society.

The prefered nomenclature is "chicks with dicks" and "duders with cooters," respectively.

This reminds me of a story in sixth grade where the teacher asked the class what is another name for a lawyer. One kid raised his hand and said prostitute instead of prosecutor.

The teacher corrected him and he didn't get in any trouble.
