Because that's likely protocol when the teacher asks a student to leave the classroom and they don't comply. Teachers are afraid to touch students in this day and age and for good reason. Just because the SRO is called doesn't mean they are contemplating criminal charges.

so what was he arresting her for?

Did you go to public school? Yep.

The SRO at your school was never called into the class room for an incident between a student and a teacher?

Well, unfortunately, SC has a law that disrupting school is illegal. From what I can see in the news, both sides of the argument agree that law is utter bullshite and the cop did not need to be called.

We didn't have a cop at our school..

Still, I know they exist. And I know they exist for people's safety. Physical altercations, weapons being brought to school, etc... NOT for a kid who won't listen to their teacher.

Correct. Calling out the cop for excessive force does not mean taking the side of the girl It's not an either / or. SOme people just don't get this.

I am not on either of their sides because they are both wrong. She is not a princess, allowed to decide what rules she will follow and which she will ignore. And he does not get to kick anybody's arse because they are an a-hole.

Looks like we agree 100%

I hate annoying SJW's. This roidhead cop just added fuel to their fire.

Well we did, and as multiple people in this thread have said, they are often brought in for these situations because teachers fear the consequences of any physical contact with students. They would much rather the SRO escort the student out of the class room by the arm than do it themselves.

Why not allow all the other students on their phone during class too? Why is this girl so special that it's OK for her? Why have rules at all? Give everyone and iPad with head phones. They will all be quiet and either be playing games or doing their assignment. Who care which it is?

Because it's against the rules

You know it's possible that students can be punished without making a spectacle? I had a dude in one of my classes who refused to take a test. Threw it on the floor, and crossed his arms like a whiny little shite. Teacher didn't call anyone, carried on with class and let the kid have his attitude. Student was expelled shortly after, and I never did see him again.

there are just as many agitators on the crazy end of the right so again, get off that cross.

I think when you have a child in a classroom that is disrupting everyone else's ability to learn, and that child refuses to follow the instructions to leave, that child deserves to be physically removed. Otherwise, you will have the disruptive children having control, and children that want to actually learn getting screwed over.

Now after watching the video, I'm not sure the cop needed to go as physical as he did. But just allowing the child to disrupt for the rest of the class, and then "discuss" it with them after? frick that.

...which only reinforces my opinion that the teacher should have let the chick do what she was going to do, inform her consequences are coming since she is not listening, and MOVE ON WITH CLASS.

These other students just went from minor disruption to their entire day of school being a waste. Sometimes "teaching a lesson" isn't as important as the other 30 kids who are still salvageable.

From what I saw, the child was using her phone quietly. How does this disrupt the others?

Move on with class, suspend/expel her later.

Where did I say anything about discussion? You realize you can still inflict serious consequences on a student after class, right?

disrupting everyone else's ability to learn,

Let me ask you this.

What disrupted the learning more:

A. The student using her phone in class

or

B. The cops being called, shite blowing up, and the entire day of school being wasted

What kind of message are you sending if you just allow students to ignore the teachers instructions and talk to them about it after class? You say this like the teacher knew the cop was going to come in and throw the girl out the desk. I'm sure this happens all the time and I'm sure most of the time the student is escorted out of the classroom by the SRO.
