Before yall were worried about making it up - now they do virtual day and it counts and you still bitch - only thing that will make happy is put kids on bus at 6am in 10 degree wind chill and ice patches all over - LOL - I just went through two long ice patches, probably 50 yards long, that won’t be thawed by tomorrow morning.

They made all the Hurricane Katrina days up? Asking for a friend.

PK-8 does not necessarily have to make up every day. HS and any middle that offers HS credit courses has to meet the state minimum for seat time or the credit does not count. The only way to get around this requirement is if the state DoE waives the seat time requirement. This happened with big events like CoVID.

EBR (and most districts) include "contingency days" into their academic calendar. EBR has one day each semester. This means that 3 days will have to be made up before the end of the 2nd semester. I anticipate that the two early dismissals days as well as the early dismissal exams days will be full days. The other option is to add 10 minutes or so to the school day to make up the "seat time".

EBR email, in case you are wondering. My friend on the school board told me they went based on DOTD advice.

Facilities assessment is huge, especially with roof leaks. Every single upstairs classroom at my school has multiple leaks. (Building new schools makes headlines; Maintaining what exists does not.) The thaw/freeze cycle from this week is causing some havoc.

— Teachers and bus drivers have absolutely zero say so in any of this decision making.

— In Ascension it came down to the fact that 1/3 of the schools had one of two issues; accessibility or lack of water for facilities.
Some schools have little to no water pressure or have a leak.
Some schools have a bridge(s) or low lying area that doesn’t allow full access safely for all students.

Ascension is not doing any virtual.

Just got word my kids’ school is closed tomorrow. They said it’s due to ice on sidewalks and the possibility of refreezing tonight. They also put blame on city officials.

It’s a joke.

They should not have texted that they will reopen Friday yesterday. I listened to the message, my wife only read the text, she went to work earlier thinking they had already decided to resume Friday. She may be naive, but that was poorly communicated. I know this because she looked at me as if it was my decision when I told her they would be "assessing" today.

Directly? No. Indirectly by putting group pressure on administration and threatening union actions? Yes

Teaching 30 years now. I have no personal knowledge of this ever happening.

It has likely happened somewhere, but that would be a ridiculous action to take for a weather day.

Anyone that doesn’t understand this is foolish

At this point I may as well home school them.

interesting how it is only "unsafe" for public sector employees

State offices are open tomorrow. It's just schools that are closed.

For someone virtue signaling nonstop about how unsafe the roads are, you sure are driving around a lot today.

Next time there is snow, we just have to assume they’ll milk it for four days. There’s no urgency or desire. Especially with “virtual school” nowadays.

I’m taking the kids on a vacation next time during MLK week. You can do virtual school anywhere.

10 more minutes huh? Oh good! I was worried we would fall behind in test scores.

I agree that it’s stupid, but Tangi has done it several times. You end up usually with two extra minutes per class period.

My wife had to go to work and I took her and picked her up and my mom had a thyroid biopsy, that they messed up in November and had to redo today as it might be cancer. It’s block her air way and she got RSV and pneumonia bc she can’t get enough air - I never said some people don’t have a need to be on road. Work or medical stuff or checking on elderly. Going to get a vape and six pack isn’t a good reason - not that I owe you an explanation. BTW, an idiot doing 50 mph hit an ice patch and slid in my lane and went across curb into a yard - scared my mother and wife to death - guy was a complete tool. And for your info I was taking about yesterday and this morning - even the city lifted the impassable roads warning at noon today. Still going to be some bad spots in morning. I got 5 vehicles and only my 4 wheel drive went anywhere today - nothing went anywhere yesterday.
