It's not really shocking. Women used to want flowers at work so they could show colleagues. Now every life event has to be on social media because it's irrelevant if people don't know about it. Not surprising people do the same with their kids.
It's pathetic.

I don’t believe that at all.

My kid was telling me some of his friends in Washington were bragging about no school today.
Crazy
OP sounds like an email fwd rumor.

I never got anything but work. My mom owned a flower shop and it is her birthday. She retired this year it was nice sending girls a dozen roses for free.

I think school was cancelled here too, is it really to not shame people?
All of my family with kids not in LA are off today and they are calling it an extra day for presidents day weekend.

Our schools are off today for a teacher In-Service and Monday for president's Day. They usually schedule in-service days for the Friday before a Monday holiday (or vice versa) to allow for 4 day weekends.

I remember back in Jr high we could buy little pink red or Purple Hearts and send them to classmates. Pink was friend, red love, purple sexy.
Needless to say Valentine’s Day was not a good day for me then being socially awkward as I was at that age

The area where I work has canceled school today so that the kids whose parents can't afford to send them something, don't have to feel humiliated/left out due to other parents who can send their child a teddy bear or something...
Why the frick are parents sending their kids Valentine's Day gifts at school?
Parents who spoil their kids rotten are more of a problem than the poor.

So the parents that can't afford to send them something now have to take off from work and now can't afford dinner that night.
Great plan.

None of this is true.
How fricking gullible do you have to be to believe this?
