It's not too far from New Orleans or Gulf Shores.

I have some cousins who live there. And some HS friends. All NOLA transplants. Not as many pine trees as there used to be.

Kingspoint subdivision off of Voters road is predominantly black. That’s about 3000 people in that sub.

Kingspoint used to be a rough neighborhood when I was young. drug dealers on every corner, home invasions, robberies. You would get jumped if you went back there. They have actually cleaned it up and it’s become a lot quieter.

Ever since Walker was officially named the Pine Tree Capital of the World a lot of cities started cutting back.

Went there for a wedding a couple weeks ago. Stayed in a creole cottage Airbnb on the bayou that was really nice but full of weird and sometimes sadistic looking art. Host must have been obsessed with hands because there was hand art everywhere. We were convinced she'd try to harvest ours in the middle of the night.

La Pines has some good biscuits. The other food was bland and worthless.

I am PROUD to be from Slidell! Went to great schools, made great friends who I’m still best friends with and talk to everyday. It’s a great city and yes there are bad and trashy people that live there but mostly good. I never feel unsafe going anywhere there because I know I probably know someone in the store, restaurant, etc. Also, the race relations are very good in Slidell. I’ve lived in BR and it’s night and day how different things are. People aren’t segregated in Slidell (for the most part) and there’s little to no animosity towards each other.

It’s a landmark on the way to the beach, never stop there, but the Slidell signs mean we’re almost in Mississippi, half way there!!

Also, in the early 80s there was a little water slide park right off of the interstate, convinced my parents to stop one time, had a good time for a couple hours

Yea, I’m in and out of the sub every day and it definitely has improved. Huntwyck was another sub that had similar problems.

I grew up in Slidell too and I agree with your post. It gets trashed on this board but has always been a nice place to live. The schools are good, the people are friendly, easy access to NOLA, BR, and the Mississippi Gulf Coast. A lot of good hunting/ fishing spots around the Pearl River and off Chef Hwy. It went downhill a little after Katrina but still isn’t bad.

I’ve been working in Slidell for 20 years and never had any major issues. It may not be as nice as Mandeville (grew up there) but it is just as safe.
