Born/raised in depression without a father, he and my aunt grew up as poor as anyone could. Huey Long's programs fed them as well as a couple of his uncles who helped when they could.

WWII: Marines. I have all his letters written home and he was happy as anyone could be in boot camp where he got a shower every day and three squares.

Came home from war, worked in the oilfields for about 20 or 30 years and the rest of the time a union pipefitter, normally 7 days a week.

Tough on us when he had to be but he didn't like having to be.

Never asked for a damn thing, never expected much, would give you the shirt off his back and go without one.

Did not like Japanese made products as his best friend was beheaded by the Japs a week before the bomb was dropped.

Never wanted any of his sons to serve but along came Vietnam. He threatened any of us if we joined the Marines, said he'd fought enough for all his family.

My Dad died in 1995, much too early and too young. He was my hero, best friend and great role model.

My Dad was the greatest Dad ever! I miss him everyday. He was very strict, at the same time he was very loving. He stood by his principles and never wavered.
As great as a dad he was he was an even better gtandpaww. My kids were his world. He died sitting in his chair watching them. That's how he wanted his last minutes. Just to be around his grandchildren.

According to what the coroner said, a DVT blood clot(s) travelled through his blood stream to his heart which caused a massive, fatal heart attack.

My Dad is the most honest man I know. About 15 years ago he was rear- ended by a city bus, knocked out with a concussion and taken by ambulance to the hospital. In a weird coincidence, I randomly witnessed the accident. He told the insurance company to “ make me whole” which they did to the penny and that was that. He could have called Gordon and slimed his way into a very nice payout, but he is too ethical.

FTR, his son is not nearly as ethical. I’m jaded.

My Dad is a great example and well respected throughout our community. If I can be half the man he is, I will be all right.

Worked his arse off. Made sacrifices so that the rest of us didn’t go without. He was a truck driver so he was gone weeks at a time.

Whipped my arse when I needed it and told me he was proud of me when he knew I deserved to hear it. He always knows when to do either...

A solid man. Honest and hard working. He is a damn good grandfather to my kids.

His world revolved around his grandkids. All he could think about was being able to play golf and fish with them as they got older. When we was in the hospital and we were alone in the room, he started crying and said that he was afraid to die because he wouldn't be able to be here with them. He passed a little over a year ago and he was only 59. I miss the hell out of him.

That's exactly how my dad lived his last words were I want to be by the kids. So, I wheeled him into the living room and he stayed there until he passed away. I feel blessed and at the same time miserable because hes gone. We were lucky to have such a great dad.

My dad had a tenant in one of his rent houses skip the lease and steal the 2k fridge he just put in. He knew where the person worked and when I asked him if he was going to call the cops he said "no son, 2k isn't really worth injecting any drama into my life"

My mom said that it happened while sitting in his recliner watching tv and never knew what hit him. I’d rather go that way than suffering with cancer for months.
