Could have picked someone up and found a bitcoin wallet connected to one of their devices and hit it with a few bucks through the link from the demand letter to put pressure on to find her. Basically, you are caught red handed, give up the lady to make it better for you.

Let me get this straight, if you give someone your crypto account requesting a deposit they can observe future transactions including the amount (in this case approx $300?)
I must be misunderstanding something that's less discreet than bank accounts etc

Giving up the lady includes her location. Family needs peace. The criminal needs to know they can convict for murder even without a body.

I think the poster who was suggesting ties to her reporting may end up being correct. Very well may turn out to be some Epstein buddy who was trying to stop her from any more stories. Or this guy didn’t like a story she ran and this was an easy and hurtful way to get back at her. Guy was prepared, but it doesn’t seem like he was Danny Ocean or anything.
Other than that, the only other theory that makes sense is a burglary gone wrong. But that makes no sense because you could just tie up granny.
