This is why i hate hearing hipsters argue for higher wages and live in place like SF. I don't want to hear anyone with a degree bitching about wages and you chose to live in one of the most expensive cities on earth. Move.

Then she'll rent it to someone for $6k to $7k.

It's a 3 BR so she'll more likely rent it out to 4 20-something tech or finance workers who will pony up $2,000 a month each for the privilege of living in what used to be the city of San Francisco.

I would never ever be a landlord in this city.

Your great uncle who was a playmate for an Apple exec just informed you that you have two rental properties in SanFran willed to you. Only you can personally manage them or they must be sold with all equity going to charity. Mortgage is $3k and average rent is $6500.

San Fransisco is one of the best cities in the world. He needs to deal and move on. I hear rent is cheap in Jackson, MS.

We can assume you have never lived in any of the more desirable areas of the U.S.

point taken. but i do own a house in SF and given opportunities Ive had in the past, I will not move out until I can sell it.

If won the lottery, might reconsider. When i was looking at real estate to buy, some places had tenants and I knew I would spend tens of thousands to evict them, if i could. if they are over 65, forget it. you will never evict them.

A lot of people who work at my company's HQ out there have 2 or more roommates. When they get married, they either move to places like Denver, Dallas, Los Angeles metro, or Pittsburgh and just accept all the traveling or working from home. What can barely afford you a one bedroom flat in San Francisco or a cookie cutter suburban apartment in San Jose can get you a very nice house in Kansas City, Minneapolis, or Memphis.

It's actually pretty hard for us to get the guys with a family to move back to the bay area. I'm 31 and married....and I'd probably move to Baton Rouge before I'd move to San Fran, Burlingame, San Mateo, San Jose, Palo Alto, etc.

Bay area is a great place to start your career and San Fran is a great city. It's just too damn expensive to compete with the more boring flyover cities.

Yea, that's fricking insane. I pay $1800+ for a 2 bedroom in Dallas, TX.

He was getting a god damn steal for 6 years. And if he had roommates? He was paying $600+ for a San Francisco apartment with Bay Views. The dude should be counting his stars right now.

This is why you always sign a lease and check the wording to make sure they can't increase the rent during the current lease

Then again he may have been month-to-month, and (usually) under these you can raise the rent after giving adequate notice.

I pay $1,400 for a single bedroom townhome (3-story though) in Nashville

This guy might have had the best rental rate in America.

That's like renting a badass 3 bedroom place in Nashville for $900

Agree. My wife and I would vaca there before kids, and we love it. But anyone who has spent time there knows it is expensive. He is basically getting a free place to live, and is salty because the owner of the property wants closer to market value. He/she just put out $8000 so he would move because they know he is a broke arse honky.

friend of mine lives in a 4 bedroom flat in duboce triangle...pays $1400. gets two roomates and charges them $700. pays no rent basically.

blames tech industry for ruining San Francisco and calls people that can afford rent "entitled"

oh the irony...

shite, he was stealing that thing.

He should be thanking his landlady for keeping it at $1800 for 6 years. $1800 for a 3 bedroom in midtown Houston would be ~$3k/month
