Escambia County sheriff says a barge has broken loose and is headed for the I-10 bridge. Authorities are scrambling to try and stop it from hitting it.

My people up there are fighting to keep drains clear and hoping not to get water in their house. They are at 13.5 inches of rain already. they are NE of Ft Walton.

Anywone else mentioned yet that it was exactly 16 years ago today that Ivan made landfall in AL at nearly the same place?

I think it was said that this one is 10 miles east of Ivan. (Or was it west? Either way I heard/read 10 miles.)

Ivan washed I-10 off of the pilings. They were not secured because nobody thought that could ever happen.

It's a barge with a very heavy crane. Tug boat captains and Coast Guard among others trying to get to it but they're not close. Even considering military ordnance drop to stop it.

MrLSU I meant before the storm. If you’re not local to where the boat is — or even if you are. Do you leave it docked? Do you lift it?

And I’d assume that many of these are for business/someone’s livelihood so I’d assume they’re insured?

I'll speak to my boat we moved it to Ocean Springs and triple anchored it in the middle of Old Fort Bayou to ride out the storm. It really depends on the size of your boat as to what you do with it. If you can't tow it out of the water but have a lift you can put it on it and raise it as high as it will go and if you have a boat too big for both you can try to tie it up to a dock or you can try to anchor it out in the middle of a pocket in a bay that has some partial protection from it.

10 miles East from Ivan’s track, exactly 16 years later to the day. Almost to the hour.

16 years ago I rode out Ivan in Gulf Shores near where I grew up. It took months for the water table to get back to some kind of normal.

I don’t live on the gulf coast anymore but family still does. Parents are okay with just some trees down but other family has water in their house. shite sucks, people weren’t really expecting this to be this exciting.

Never cease to be amazed how many people steal content on social media. Seeing the pic of the 3 Mile Bridge in Pensacola being shared by tons of people without attribution to the person who first took it
