I worked off hourly, I worked off salary. The last job I worked off salary. I did ok with it. It was a Mon-Fri job, 7am-4pm. Never had a problem with it and had my time off. My salary worked out to where I make the company money, they were happy and so was I. I don't get your question though. Why not just work more and quit bitching less?

in the engineering world, everyone seems to be hourly.

Where I work, all engineers are salary. Craft personnel are hourly and fall under a collective bargaining agreement. Basically, where I am...if you fall under the CBA you are hourly...if you don't then you aren't.

So you’re telling me (someone who’s never been in an accident) that I should’ve been paying full coverage the last 30 years????

The law that prevails is the 1938 Fair Labor Standards Act. It defines exempt vs non-exempt and has the essential duties section. This prevents you from calling a janitor the Vice President of Maintenance so you can pay him/her a low salary in order to prevent paying them overtime. Google FLSA exempt vs non-exempt.

There’s no such thing as full coverage. No one that has wealth has “minimal liability coverage”.

You saying you drive around like that shows you don’t have a pot to piss in.

I worked a large project a number of years back. i was working M-F onsite as a PM basically 50 hrs week on salary. my superintendents were working 6-10s for most of the project and even with my bonus at the end of the year, they made more. however, i had PTO, fuel card/vehicle allowance and other benefits.

on an average year/project my salaried job make more then the hourly guys, plus i get PTO/comp days now for working weekends.... it all averages out. while the hourly guys income is a rollercoaster depending on OT available.

In my line of work, all staff is salary but we get straight time overtime for anything over 40 with approval. Craft make 1.5x for over 40 if we allow them to go over 40

Being an employee is for the birds. Hate that I waited until my early 30s to figure that out

Salary unless you are a ceo or high up in a business chain is for suckers.

You end up working the same or more as hourly.

If I’m at work, I expect to be paid

Not sure what business you're in, but, if it bills clients and expects a specific amount of your hours to be billed to the client, the company won't care if you're salary if you're under utilized.

Every time I hear that phrase I laugh, usually out loud.

Insurance policies have limits, if they did not insurance companies could not manage risk.
