Now NCAAP begging for a grand jury.
Posted on 4/2/18 at 9:05 am to LSUDAN1
BATON ROUGE- The Baton Rouge NAACP is rallying for the Alton Sterling case to be given to a grand jury.
The rally is set for Monday at noon at the Louisiana Attorney General's Office. Last week Jeff Landry announced his findings in the case. Landry's office came to the decision not to charge Baton Rouge Police Officers Blane Salamoni and Howie Lake with Sterling's death.
In his remarks, Landry added that there was insufficient evidence to take the case to a grand jury, a point that frustrated many local leaders. During WBRZ's coverage, last week legal expert and former Baton Rouge prosecutor Prem Burns said she was surprised a grand jury wasn't allowed to make the call.
News of the NAACP wanting a grand jury to look at the case comes just days after Police Chief Murphy Paul fired Salamoni and suspended Lake.

there's 54 pages to go through, but based on the video and what we know, is it OK to be glad there were no charges but also that Salamoni was fired?
is that allowed?

I'm in this boat. While I believe the officers were justified, their actions lead to an escalation of the situation. There are way better tactics to employ, specifically getting more cops on the scene before attempting the takedown.

Some of those who didn’t like what happened to Sterling appear to be willing to take that as a consolation prize.

This is yet another stupid idea I can’t believe people keep parroting. What is your plan here? Are you arguing they should just stand around in the parking lot with Sterling and talk about life until more officers get there? Because, you know, he might decide to start shooting you while that is going on. Or do you suggest they don’t go there at all until they rally the troops and then roll in as a group? Because there are problems with that as well. Like what if, while you are hanging out down the block waiting on other cars, he up and kills someone? Can you imagine the uproar from the public? Meanwhile, showing up with four or five carloads of officers is going to have the very same people bemoaning this shooting claiming that you were unnecessarily escalating by having that many officers on scene and that you are only doing it because you are in the hood, etc, etc, etc. Unnecessay military tactics, jack booted thugs, blah blah blah. Remember that they didn’t know this guy was 6’5” 330 lbs, high as a kite, armed and willing to fight to the death when they rolled up there.
You are only suggesting they should have waited on more officers because you know how it turned out. Quit using your 20/20 hindsight and look at it again.

Salamoni is the classic power tripping cop who peaked in high school and has been over compensating ever since.
Seemed nice enough though. He isnt the textbook example of "peaked in highschool"

I've looked at the video(s) a lot in the last few days. Seems like Lake has everything under control and BS comes in hard-charging and fricks it all up. Sorry, but that's how I see it.
How YOU can sit here knowing what we do now and try to defend his actions is more startling than anyone who criticizes him. Has everything to do with hindsight- like all bad decisions. "Seemed like the thing to do at the time."
Till it didn't work.

I had a chance to get the opinion of a recently retired brpd officer who was faced with a somewhat similar situation as these two.
First, his situation: He was working overtime security at a retail store and stopped someone who was leaving and accused of stealing. The guy tried to get away and there was a takedown. The robber wasn't armed, but he did attempt to take the gun out of the cops holster. He was about twice the size of the cop. Eventually, a bystander joined in and they were able to cuff the thief. Unfortunately, a week later the same scenario took place at the same retail store... But the cop was female and instead of a glock, she still used the .38 revolver which didn't have the strap to secure the gun in the holster. The thief that time got the gun and killed the female officer... over $35 worth of disposable cameras and cigarettes.
Here's what he had to say about this: Lake did zero wrong. He used protocol and was forceful with his language going from "guided" force (open hand) to non-lethal (taser). He has no idea why Lake was reprimanded at all. On the other hand, he had big issues with Blane's response. He said some cops are like that where they go in loud and mean to try and control the situation with almost zero time for assessment. And it's often effective but it leaves room for errors like drawing down while Lake was still next to Alton. He also thought the tackle was premature, again, because Blane wanted to take control before any real assessment. But once they were on the ground and fighting, he said it was easy to tell that Alton was still resisting and that anything could have been happening under that car where the videos couldn't see. As long as Blane felt his life was threatened, the shoot is justified. Period.

I'm only suggesting it because I've seen it happen many times before both on TV and in real life.
Additional officers arrived on the scene within minutes of the shooting. Why couldn't you keep AS at bay until the calvary arrived? There was NO IMMINENT DANGER to the public that required immediate takedown. If he does go for his gun, you take him out.
Those officers were very lucky. Had AS broken free from their grip, he could have very well gotten to his gun. But let's be mindful AS was not going for his gun when Salamoni arrived
They rolled the dice by taking on AS by themselves and are very fortunate the criminal was the only one who lost his life.

as for this stupidity:
well BS and Lake are both standing there at gunpoint with AS. AS, while armed and fidgety, isn't reaching for his gun. I'm fairly sure one of the two if not both officers could have fired on AS if he'd have reached for his gun. In fact I'd have preferred if BS would have just shot the fat frick and never said a word. All the verbal shite is why its so easy to find fault with BS. Either shoot the fricking guy or don't. But don't scream like you're having a fit, cause that's how it looked.
and before you start your shite, no I wasn't there, I've never had to fill their shoes, I don't know how I'd react, yada, yada, yada.
But given the outcome, BS's actions don't seem like they were the right thing to do. Apparently most see it that way as well.
