Been on safety razors for about 10 years now.
Moving to using a straight razor shortly. Anybody have any suggestions?

Couldn’t agree more. Made the switch about 3 years ago to a safety razor, and it’s really not any slower than using a cartridge razor now. I do have a straightedge but it only gets used on the weekends when I can take my time. Sometimes I’m still amazed at how much better these perform than the overpriced garbage out there.

I must be over applying my Cremo. Last me about a month

I don’t shave every day so I tend to use more than recommended too. Don’t care, it’s not that expensive and the more I use the better shave I get.

Very short, very slow strokes.
But mostly just stick with a double edged safety

Amen - they aren't sky high like back in the day and middling badger beats any boar. Heck, better synthetic brushes beat boar short-term.
Just gut it up, pick a badger within your price range and thank us later.

Are these good for head shaving too?

Once you get into it you'll upgrade. I have a decent safety razor and use both feather and astra blades. For cream I like to use a preconditioner. I use proraso pre shave and for creams I use Taylor of Bond Royal Forest cream and sometimes proraso cream. Also use a WCS badgar brush. One thing I do that makes a more enjoyable shave is shower first to soften my beard. I also will heat up water to put in my mug then dump it out to add my soap. It heats it up a little before applying. I'll also put a hot towel on my face before shaving sometimes.

And metro sexual Braxton goes spends that on two months worth of Gillette plastic with exfoliating strip. Shows just how dumb this country has become.
But the metro sexual and hipsters are absoutely using safety razors and not the Gillette shite

meant to say badger. don't know why I said boar. the boar brushes from what I hear are thicker and rough

A good badger brush will rarely shed hair into your cream.

What kind of soap/cream do y’all’s use?
Been using Taylor of Old Bond Street Sandalwood Shaving Cream for years,
Try Barrister & Mann, their Seville scent is a really good barbershop scent.
Delcaration Grooming is another good one

I use maybe a pea sized amount. Its really spreads well with hot water. You want a very thin layer

If you're talking about the yellow box Indian Gillette 7 o'clock sharpedges, they are among the best blades on the market
Interesante, I have not heard of this particular blade. I have pretty much settled on Astra Platinum and Dorco. I shave three or four times per week, and I can get 8 to 10 shaves before changing blades. I have blades for the next 15 years before I HAVE to buy any more.
My going out blade, LOL, is Kai. They are like a buck apiece but the sharpest blade on the market, bar none; not even Feathers, which didn't perform well on my beard.

Honestly, I use both. Choosing which one to use depends upon what cream or soap you're using.
My go-to are Proraso red, in the tub, and Lather & Wood which comes in a can. Both are better served with a boars' hair Semogue brush than a badger which is a bit TOO soft.
I have never used Cremo, or the shave creams in a tube, I would expect they are more suited to the badger brush.

Made the switch years ago and it is definitely GREAT for the wallet. I bought a 30 pack of blades for $10 3 years ago and haven't bought any more since.
Disclaimer: I only shave once a week so I get a little more time off of each blade.

A pea? Are you a little person? A pea barely covers my right cheek! I use an uncracked walnut size dollop.
