What the frick else can they do? They suspended the fraternity from campus....there's nothing proving this is anything more than drunken frat assholes saying a stupid chant

I was in a large 100+ member fraternity 20 years ago. As with any large group we had all types: some virulent racists and some very diversity minded. But there was never even a discussion about having non-white members - it just wasn't even an issue. It wasn't going to happen. We certainly didn't need an actual song that we all knew to remind us. With that said I think it is well past time for that to change. I'd like to see membership in all fraternities have nothing to do with race. I think my old chapter has a couple of Asian guys and one black guy that looks like Tiger Woods now. So that's progress I think.
Also, don't get me wrong, the chant itself is horrible and wrong, but who busts that out on a bus filled with a bunch of girls most them met last week while drunk at a bar. The odds of that hitting social media in 2015 in that scenario is about 1:1. So basically this is dumbassery squared.

Every time I think I've seen all the stupidity the world has to offer, another proverbial clown pops out of the car
It's unbelievable.

Not personally involved at all. The kid is an idiot, but that affects me in no way at all.
What I do find interesting is you older, predominantly straight white men clamoring about "we're a nation of pussies. Can't no one say anything anymore without that god damn pc thought police coming down on them argh argh argh rabble rabble rabble."
Societal norms and standards are changing, just as they have throughout history. The exchange of ideas, and the free-market forces that attach to certain ideas and make them popular (and also attach to other ideas and cause them to not gain any foothold), is what the FIrst Amendment is about. The government can't suppress ideas because we want all manners, shapes, and forms of ideas floated around. The ones with merit will attach on and become mainstream. The dumb, ignorant bullshite will be seen for exactly that and those who propogate such nonsense will be called out for it.
There absolutely is freedom for you to say what you want. There is also my absolute freedom to judge the shite out of you for it.
That's the basis of the First Amendment. And it's awesome.

Of course the two black dudes in this thread stick together.

One of the less smart things posted in this thread. Public universities are by definition state institutions. They aren't just government contractors.

Actually, that is the definition of a Public University.

Man, I've been on the other side of it too. SS and I have butted heads downstairs on the poliboard before.
Gotta evaluate each issue independently though, I guess

Am I the only one offended by the fact that they skipped the "then your face will surely show it" part?

But that's not what this particular older white straight male said at all.... Nor what I was trying to say.
Maybe next time you should get your facts in line.
Face it, you're on a witch/burn em at the stake hunt for anyone that says anything you disagree with.
It's cool., it's what many on this website do best.
I'm not mad at you pal.

Nope.
You're bending over backwards trying to say what these kids did wasn't a big deal when a nation disagrees with you.
It's hilarious tbh

I was thinking the same thing. I read comments before watching the vid for the first time and was just starting to think
"Hell... EVERYBODY knows that song...wait...nevermind. This is bad."

Thanks for telling me what I'm trying to do.
Just Admit you're on the hunt.

Nobody is ont he hunt for you, my man. We're all actually just sitting back and letting you do your thing. Why work for it when you'll just hand it to us on a silver platter?

If college is truely about educating they would educate him on the situation, make him face the music by having discussions with minorities around campus, and let him learn. ...theres more to educating then just whats on a syllabus.
But that isnt nearly as fun as pitchforks. have a great opportunity to take an a-hole and show we are above have hate speech aNd show that this group of n words to him is actually willing to forgive. Not only do you change his mind you change his friends and family's view.By trying to ruin a life i doubt hes gonna change his views on them...

It did sound like that wasnt the first time they had sang that song together. It sounded like everyone knew the words and it was well rehearsed.
