and thanks to technology people who are depressed find it even easier to isolate
This is so true. I didn't know this man, but my heart still aches for his family and friends. My cousin committed suicide on April Fools Day 2 years ago. The loss, confusion, guilt and pain for those left behind can't be overstated.
I think most people have hit a wall at some point in their life where they get depressed, and can't see a way out. They feel overwhelmed, and like such a loser their family and friends would be better off without them. And all too often, it's just temporary troubles that would pass.
Wow. This makes me even more determined to be kind to everyone, and reach out to the people I care about - and even those I don't know. You never know when some random smile or kind word might make a difference to someone. Peace to this man's family and friends.

I've been through some hard times. I did hit rock bottom and sought help.
What I found is that people were understanding, forgiving, loving and extremely helpful, the opposite of what I worried about. They didn't judge, and many accepted me as they did before.
However it's hard to know that when you're going through hard times. Maybe if people were "real" before finding out someone is struggling people would realize they do have someone to turn to before it's too late.

Very well stated and something everyone should strive to do.
Personally speaking, there was a period in my life where even a smile and small conversation in line at the gas station would turn my whole day around. Like someone posted earlier, depression can make you feel isolated in the most crowded of rooms. Often the kindness of a complete stranger means more than the ones you see every day because your mind has tricked you into believing that the ones closest to you are just going through the motions; a stranger can come along and almost work as a "reset" of sorts.

True statement.

Interesting "reset" concept. This is the kind of insight people (both depressed and non-depressed) need to be educated with.

So sorry to hear this. I knew THF from here and here only; but I can't recall anyone ever having a problem with him. From his posts he seemed like a good guy.
Prayers for his family and friends. RIP Flask.

Ill sometimes look at bios of attorneys at big law firms and wonder how those people aren't fricking miserable. They try to do everything, work a million hours, and all for what?
Money, prestige, power and just trying to get to that frick you money. I don't think one guy committing suicide invalidates this individual choice. No one knows why he did it anyway. It's unfortunate and a tragedy for his family. End of story.

News flash...the user name and the real person are rarely ever the same person.

I think about it all the time. Have never gone so far as to make a plan, but definitely have thought about it. Even when I don't have a problem in the world. Sometimes just tired. Tired of responsibility, tired of having to be me...just plain tired. Hard to explain to those that say they don't understand, but I can see how the wrong thing at the wrong time could lead to it. Life gets away from you. Even success brings pressure and depression with it. I'd love to simply and start all over again. I'd love to just fricking sell off everything and live a plain, simple arse life.

That was just me rambling. I didn't say there was anything wrong with that pursuit, but I'm sure a lot of those types suffer from some serious mental issues

This place can be an escape.
Somewhere to vent, to let a side of you that might not be what you have to put forth on the day to day forth.
Somewhere to say things you might not say or have a different opinion or just bullshite.
This place is interesting to say the least. A lot of good people

I respectfully disagree. I doubt it's any more than the gen pop.

You can't help yourself. "Look at me I'm successful."
