Not exactly, but no one has done this either....

posters going out their way to make sure you know they totally dont know/arent aware of anything remotely popular will never not be funny
There is an element on this board that thinks it's a flex not to know anything about pop culture, which is a little odd.

You should have seen the album cover they wanted to do.

Yup. Part of my job as a parent is staying current on popular things to make sure I know what my kids are getting into. At least in the digital age, it's a much easier task than it was for my parents to do for me

Several of the first posts are a version of "who?"
And it happens in pretty much every thread about a popular person
How is that going out of their way? These threads are sort of like a conversation in a group setting.
One guy says check out this photo some chick is using for her new album.
You get a couple guys saying they don't know who she is, some that do know who she is and discuss the music, some say they'd like to know who she is and bang her, etc. Then there's the guy who finds it funny that some guys "go out of their way" to say they don't know she is. I'm the guy that finds it funny to think that's going out of someone's way. They didn't call all their buddies to get online and vouch for them that they don't know who she is. They just said "who?"

I just became aware of this broad like a month ago, and now I see her popping up everywhere. She strikes me as the kind of girl that’s playing at being a ‘bad girl’. I’ll bet she’s vanilla af.

Making a post just to say who is absolutely going out of your way to make it known.

Same. I have an older teenage daughter, so that accounts for a lot of my exposure, and like I said in this thread, I can appreciate a lot of it. Now, is a significant portion of it vapid and generic? Sure, but the same can be said for pop music/culture in every decade for the past 70 years. As an old White guy, I also have my Dad Rock, etc., playlists too.

Yea I can definitely only speak anecdotally on this one. I have a young daughter and know how most parents in teh groups we run in think, but there are others that are way too relaxed with what they let their children be exposed to.
It’s pretty impossible to avoid having a teenager being exposed to a pop star as big as her. My dad did a good job introducing me to a lot of classic rock via making me burn CDs off of Napster for him. Which in turn made me want to do LSD, don’t think that was his intention
I do find it funny that SC catches a lot of shite for being a slut from feminist circles but they won’t dare touch women rappers who are significantly dirtier in their lyrics.

Oh I know there's not stopping the exposure, I just need to know the kinds of talks I need to be having

Uh.... well..... not sure we need to do this in this thread

This is nothing new in popular music. I listen to some of the songs I listened to when I was a teenager and it’s pretty horrific looking back at it. It is what it is. I turned out pretty normal as did the females who listen to the same stuff generally.
Are you sure you’re normal? Or do you assume you are because you’ve existed in this world in a functioning way?
But either way, I would argue that celebrated pop music is way more overtly sexual than celebrated pop music was in the past. I would also argue that just because the past included sexual expression in pop music doesn’t mean it has ever been healthy for young people to consume.
Britney Spears looked damn sexy in Toxic. But she wasn’t getting Eiffel Towered on stage. Madonna was sultry and sensual in her performances. But she wasn’t bending over talking about her “wet arse pussy.”

I make no apologies for not knowing who this person is. I am not her demographic

I'd say you're grasping at straws trying to make a stupid point. I've discussed her without going out of my way to be like Captain America.
Now if my posts in this thread only said "I definitely know who this person is," you might have a point

This Madonna?

I'm not usually into pop, but I dig Sabrina Carpenter. Short N' Sweet is a great album. Also she's hot!
Her Tiny Desk performance is great!

Is that the arse cheek photo she shared last week? My wife ran over from her office down the hall to show me

Just another mainstream whore.
Fathers, be a good example in your daughter’s life. Depravity is ramping up.

Someone needs to post her rolling stone cover that just dropped right now.
