I just emailed an acquitance I know in Moscow. He sent me a clip of the Russian news saying that "all sides agree to deescalate over Ukraine." Of course the Russian media lies a lot.

BBC reporting that UK doesn't think Russia invasion is nearly as "imminent" as the US currently believes.
All pieces are in place for Russia, but UK still sees it as negotiation tactics rather than confirmation of an invasion within the next 48-72 hours.

Putin always keeps his options open, so even if he did tell his military to gear up it’s not a “this is definitely happening” situation.
Putin isn’t dumb, he has to know that even if we wanted to we can’t just roll over and accept his demands under threat of invading Ukraine. There has to be another pathway.

Maybe get to Kiev quickly but the actual siege will be brutal. The Russian military has come a long way since the 90s but the Battles of Grozny will give you an idea of how it will go.
