Back in WW2, Japan had an enormous battleship that was basically just kept in port the entire war and Yamamoto spent a lot of time on it. Many Japanese sailors resented the fact that the ship was never deployed while they were out fighting. However, deploying the ship would have made no sense, because it required enormous amounts of fuel and protection. They didn't have the resources to use it in the war.

Deploying their battleship also didn't make sense because the platform was outdated and would not last long in a battle with the US Navy.

China and Russia are sinking billions into various ways of destroying our carriers. Once one goes to sea they will move heaven and Earth to destroy it.

The sub in our op could literally go around the ocean deploying and maintaining drones, mines, sensors, and other tools of espionage

Why would they put a person there if it isn't to scale?

how does the Virginia Class stack up?

Think of the Virginia Class as a multirole fighter jet

This sub is more of an undersea aircraft carrier that deploys submersible drones rather than F-18's

The Russian navy is the least important of the Russian services, and recieves less money as a result.

With that said, submarines are their first priority. And what they spend their naval budget on.

Russian shipbuilding is a mess but their sub programs are fine.

Why do you think the person is not to scale? That is a big fricking torpedo.

...seems like the underwater nuclear sonar network would be easy to spot on infrared.

I’m sure Jonesy can track it covertly and the USS Dallas can sink it.

They don’t have near the technology needed to pull off everything they are claiming that this thing can do.

You can't sink it till you're at war with it.

This ship can preposition assets and sensors prior to WWIII breaking out

NATO has a SOSUS undersea sonar network. This ship can help the Russians build an equivalent which could be bad news for our fleet providing their sensors are good enough

A lot of dumb info being spread in heard by a lot of non-submariners.

This boat is terrifying. Although I’d love to be sitting EO again on the USS Charlotte as we tracked this SOB.

SUBRON1 for the win.

You're right to an extent. The size while impressive also makes it ungainly. What's impressive are its capabilities as stated in the OP

This is the most versatile clandestine warship I've ever read about.

How long until we hear about the crew being lost due to "unexplained difficulties at sea"?

If we know when it was launched and where, I would guess it is safe to assume we are tacking and monitoring.....

A very good possibility especially considering this is a patchwork design of bastardized materials that were sitting unfinished for decades
