I grew up down the river so I am familiar with Memphis' history and biased toward being down on it. It looks better than the nadir in the 90's.
That said everybody I know does live in N. Mississippi

I remember stopping at the Circle K at Airline and Goodwood the morning after the big demonstration. The clerk told me that all the locals were in the parking lot drinking and basically tailgating while all of the outsiders were on the street trying to egg on the Police.
