Anyone else having roof leaks because of ice buildup on their roof? I believe we have transitioned to rain in elleck, and the house has pouring leaks in probably 10 places. The strangest shite I have ever seen.

YouTube search ice dams on roofs.

It’s happening all over that area.

Yes up north when we roof a house we put a special material down for the first few rows of underpayment to prevent ice dams. I’ve never seen any roofing company put it down while I’ve lived in Baton Rouge.

I’m having the same issue. It is what it is. There’s nothing much I can do. I’ve been up on the roof already and have cleared as much as I can. Almost fell off the roof. Had to jump. Thank god I landed in mud.

Ice and Water Shield. Grace makes one, so does Henry in their BlueSkin line.

Well, the guy above me got it.

Yes it’s called ice and water shield
When I built my house I had them put it in all the valleys and on all the eaves

I have ice shield, but the buildup is so high, it’s above the valley.

My aunt and uncle are in Spring and they are having that issue. Their power was restored about an hour ago and their roof started leaking almost immediately.

Luckily, it's over the garage, so it could be worse. Still sucks.

Not really. The roof area above the soffit is colder due to no insulation or heated space underneath causing a ice dam at the edge of the roof with or without a gutter. Having gutters can make it worse.

one video says to put rock salt in a stocking and throw it on the edge of the roof where the ice dam is. it will melt the ice and create a path for the water to drain

If you have gutters, they may be full of ice, and water that runs onto them will run into the house. Really hard to find are leaks when ice wedges up shingle, that then flatten out when warm sun hits them as everything melts.
