I’m shocked Nickelback wasn’t in the top 5.

MCR was in my wheel house in my late 20’s and again when I turned 40. I’m not OK is a great mid-life crisis song

There are actually some modern rock bands that are kind of bringing back that style. They aren’t Emo but kind of Emo adjacent. Like Bad Omens, Dayseeker, Outlier, Dead Poets Society etc. Hell BMTH has some songs that are Emo adjacent. Octane on SiriusXM has these bands in constant rotation.

Also I know it’s not for everybody (because Corey Taylor) but Stone Sour had some good songs that were wildly popular. Song 3 should have probably made the list.

Like the song but this is about as “rock” as Beyonce is “country”.

I'll meet you halfway and concede that the '70s were probably the pinnacle of rock music's cultural relevance and influence. But I strongly disagree that they represented the pinnacle of artistic achievement. Those are two very different things. Cultural dominance isn't a measure of artistic quality, and popularity isn't the same thing as talent.

I was born in 1960.

What is a good measure of artistic quality?

I like music by bands that some people put on an artistic pedestal, and bands that no one would accuse of being artistic at all.

I just know what appeals to me.

A lot of the British Invasion bands were classically trained musicians. They knew how to compose like Beethoven and Mozart, and how to set it to a rock beat.

I have both Rush and AC/DC is my top 5 favorites of all time. I think most people would put Rush much higher on the artistry scale than AC/DC, but I think they are both great at what they do.

It may come as a surprise to many, but Rush and Kiss once toured together way back in the day, and they remain friends and fans of each other's music.

Just to be clear, you are claiming to have never heard or heard of Seven Nation Army or Mr. Brightside, two of the most famous and most played rock songs in rock history?

That are played to or sung by the crowd in like 90% of sporting events?

A lot of people, including some of my best friends, listen to the same music in repeat from a youthful time period in their lives. I can't understand how they do it.

It is legit impossible for any non-deaf person born in America between the ages of like 20 and 60 to not have heard those two songs.

Even in passing, if you watch sports, you have heard those two songs like 100s of times
