Wow!

Do the old ones hold their value? They’re pretty blingy (gold watch and bracelet, diamonds in place of numbers), so I don’t think they’d be in style. Maybe there’s value in the amount of gold?

Vintage watches are generally too small.

Look for new automatic, on a strap, that fits your style. $400-$2500. Make it your EDC, beat the crap out of it, change the bands frequently...you want a case ~40mm though.

This.

I prefer vintage for most everything but the smaller watches from the past don’t fit with today’s style.

They're both ugly as frick, so what's the draw here? Saying you got a Rolex or Omega?

Both appear to be a massive waste of money.

Rolex. Mine is not a submariner, but I have worn it for 32 years without a problem.

Lol and there it is folks.

PS I choose the Rolex. It's timeless, it holds its value and I just don't care for the Seamaster. I'm a Speedy Pro kind of guy.

Craftsmanship, seeing something attractive on your wrist, precision

Thousands of dollars isn’t a ‘massive’ amount of money to some people.

Yep, there it is. I don’t spend thousands of dollars to impress people I don’t even know and probably wouldn’t like anyway. I don’t value it, and would prefer spending that money of shite that actually adds value to my life.

My phone does the exact same thing, as does my 15 year old super reliable Seiko.

What kind of car do you drive? 1978 Mercury Marquis? Because by your logic you should get the most inexpensive car to get you from point A to point B

Toyota truck, because it’s practical and reliable, and I also don’t plaster brand stickers on my back window to announce any kind of status shite either.

Watch people don't buy watches for other people. We buy them for ourselves. Because we see value in what they are and what they do. We appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into the process.

But HEY LOLZ LOOK AT MY WRIST BLING YO!!

My 55 fathoms mod does. Crystal cost more than the watch 3x over.

Yeah, I'm sorry. It's a name. Status symbol, etc.

Nah, maybe not "massive", but it's a shitload of dough for something to TELL YOU THE TIME. There's just not $5,000 worth of value in that. I guess if you've got nothing better to do with it, whatever. But I have a feeling just about EVERYone could do something more productive with that money.

I don't believe that's what he said, but even if he did, why not? Personally, I'm not much into depreciating assets, but you do you.

You think a Rolex is a depreciating asset?

You folks need to brush up on horology a bit before you make asinine statements.

In business you'd be surprised what kind of value/return you can get on wearing that $5000 watch. Hell, a lot of you would probably be surprised on what a nice pair of high end shoes can do you for you. People notice that stuff and successful people generally only want to do business with other successful people.
