Id fly in it.

It took me a solid 30 seconds to realize the takeoff gif wasn’t gonna take off

I still remember walking through the VAB with this bad boy getting hauled over. The look on grandpa's face when my younger brother, 5 at the time, reached up and started petting the ceramic tiles.

I just missed seeing a launch. We got tickets for the causeway, got out there and it was a perfect day with a clear view of the launchpad. But they scrubbed the mission because crosswinds at the emergency landing site were 1 mph over the limit. Next day, same thing.

The best part was when they landed it on that asteroid and saved the planet.

Great photos. I'll always remember watching a night shuttle launch

I wish I could have watched a launch in person before it was cancelled. The space shuttle was an absolute engineering marvel.

Yeah, but one crashed and only one of them came back. It was so sad when we lost that shuttle, those great Americans, and Owen Wilson.

Saw one from Jacksonville, FL. It is amazing how much can see from the 100 miles away.

I’ve always been amazed that they figured out a way to have something that big, enter our atmosphere at that speed, to land at a precise spot such as an airstrip and did it with an almost (RIP) perfect safety record

I'm not saying this did not happen. But I worked Space Shuttle Flight Crew Equipment and spent a fair amount of time in the VAB and the OPF.

Was the 5 year old on someone's shoulders? If not, I'd venture to say you are misremembering the event. If he was on someone's shoulders, that tour guide really dropped the ball if he/she allowed that.

This would be a tiny bit more plausible in the OPF vs. the VAB.

Could you provide a bit more of your recollection?

I missed a launch by a day. Interned in Tampa in 06 and got tickets on a launch day but it got delayed. Still went to the space center as I hadn’t been since i was a kid and got to see the shuttle on the pad with the shroud around it. It launched the next day and I was able to see it going up sitting in my apartment in Tampa. Really cool.
