Mom got 3 calls back-to-back Friday spoofing 3 different numbers, including her neighbor across the street. All were robo calls.
I'm thinking the old folks across the street got a virus and it grabbed everything out of the address book, or their cellphone contacts, or both. (thoroughly checked Mom's PC and she has a flip phone that is probably dead battery as usual so not her w/virus)
I got bunches on my cell last week but it's ez for me to tell...I got my phone in Dallas but live in either LA or AR (since Dad died am spending loads of time at the house there). Haven't even visited Dallas in going on 5 years now so lost contact with people there.

I've said it multiple times, but I highly recommend the TrueCaller app. It's basically user generated caller ID, and it's great.
Spam calls are often labeled as such, and numbers you don't know are usually identified using public records. I love it.

think that goes for most people. It’s sad that the damned telemarketing industry was allowed to in effect destroy the functionality of phones.
I find it strange the phone industry doesn’t put a stop to it for this very reason.

God I hate these calls. I’ve tried ignoring them but I get numerous daily. Sometimes I try to get through to someone and the call just hangs up. Wtf?
The other day I actually got through to someone. I wasted about 3 minutes of his time until he wiser up to what I was doing, then literally told me to “frick off” and hung up

The no call list may as well be nonexistent. The only way to fight them is to teach yourself to enjoy keeping them on the phone for as long as possible and then giving them a fake name and credit card number.
If you get into playing the game post your record length call time, the calling number, and name of the company and what they are selling.

Those ones really infuriate me. I can't even get revenge by trolling them.

I'm getting 3 calls a day from same area code as my cell. I live in a different area code now so it makes it easy not to answer. I'm getting another 1-3 calls of just straight BS but thankfully TMO is doing this thing where the phone says "scam likely" on many of those calls.

Hmm, checking the app now. I see a review by someone annoyed by all the notifications they get from the app. Can it accidentally block a valid #? I use this for my business so I can't miss calls unless they're for sure spam.

Anyone can make a VoIP phone call for free now, it really isn't run by "the phone industry" anymore like it used to - it's all internet. In fact, I called my mom today from my computer using VoIP - never used my phone at all.
It's surprisingly hard to do something about it. Most of these jokers are run by overseas call centers, beyond the reach of US law. There are occasional wins when US law enforcement can convince Indian or Filipino law enforcement to do a raid but the incentives aren't there.
Last time I visited my mom she got one of those Indian "AOL tech support" scammers and I was able to toy with him for a solid 20 minutes. He tried to get me to download software from some website and I kept getting the URL wrong because I was "hard of hearing". Finally after a few minutes I told him "Yes, I have it now!" followed by "Oh dear, I think I pressed the wrong button". Then when I pretended to press the right button I told him the software was telling me "Your operating system does not support this software."
So he says "Sir, you have Windows am I correct?" I said "Why yes I do! I've had Windows XP for a long time now!"
Undeterred he tried another approach but I got tired of fricking with him and told him to fellate me. I don't often use that language in front of mom but am pretty sure she approved.

Happened to me the other day. My friend said I called him but my phone was in charge in my truck while I was in the store. No way it dialed him

I texted Congressman Graves back when this started to spike, he didn't even bother to send a response.

I despise the ones that call you on a number almost like yours.

They also hit the elderly with checks in snail mail saying the won the Home Depot Sweepstakes. They take the check to a bank and the bank manager says it's good and the check goes bad real quick.

The ones that use snail mail and say that you owe such and such from 7 years ago and you will go into collections are bad for the elderly.
Or the ones that say your grandson/son is in jail in Mexico SEND MONEY NOW after the people search you online to find out the grandkids names.
