200 year-old oak tree that Red read Andy's letter under. Storms and rot finally caused it's demise and had to be cut down.

May it burn in peace in some fireplace one day.

Is that what one calls "tree legs"?

After hanging by a thread the last few years, the once-majestic oak used in the 1994 film The Shawshank Redemption has been chopped into pieces and removed from its Mansfield, Ohio, property. The rotted-out tree, which was partially damaged back in 2011, and again last summer, was a popular site along The Shawshank film trail.

It's hard to blame someone when they're oblivious to the situation.

The poster was taped at the top but not at the bottom. You see him leaning under it in one shot during the early part of the digging process.

This is certainly a strange way to keep people off of your "private property". By posting a big arse sign that says "SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION MOVIE SITE"
