What a magnificent beast. Lived to 54 and died of natural causes. Sad to see the passing of these rare, majestic elephants. Very few of them left.

Evidence from poorly chewed plant material found in his dung suggests that Craig was no longer grinding his food properly, indicating severe tooth wear. Elephants progress through six sets of molars during their lives, and once the final set becomes worn, their ability to feed effectively declines. A post-mortem examination is pending, but this is believed to be the most likely cause of his death.

Same thing happened to our dear friend Tanden

There’s a job that’s not for everyone.

I bet he's buried without those tusks.

Must have been well protected to survive with those beautiful tusks.

Craig Ferguson was my first thought and then after that Craig from Southern Charm. Neither would have surprised me.

They did in fact remove his tusks postmortem.

But he doesn't appear to have been buried. They let nature run its course. There is a FB video and IG reels of vultures disposing of him. Dust to dust, if you will.

He lived in Amboseli Park. Apparently had full time security.

At the age of 27, while traveling with the Lewis Brothers Circus, Shirley's right hind leg was broken during an altercation with another elephant. As it healed, several bones in her leg fused together, creating an abnormal angle and shape. After two more years performing in the circus, Shirley was sold to the Louisiana Purchase Gardens and Zoo in Monroe, LA. She was the sole elephant at the zoo for 22 years.
On July 6, 1999, Shirley became the fourth resident of The Elephant Sanctuary, joining Tarra, Jenny, and Barbara. At The Sanctuary, Shirley experienced a very loving reunion with Jenny. Research showed the two elephants had been in the same circus 23 years earlier! This memorable event is the subject of an Emmy-winning National Geographic documentary “The Urban Elephant.”

Indian or Asian elephants are not the same as African elephants. African elephants are much bigger and meaner

Are you saying Africans are more primitive, less developed if you will, than Asians.
Fascinating.
