I'd take this

Over this

And to be fair New Orleans was thrown into a pretty shite situation, Baltimore created theirs.

Eta: Yea I do think it could happen, I'd say it's a lot less likely however.

If riots like Baltimore's happened in the South, there would be a lot more retaliation IMO. By both citizens and police. Things would get much worse than they have in Ferguson and Baltimore. More than property would be destroyed.

Possibly? Yeah, I could for sure see it happening, along with Atlanta, Memphis, Montgomery, Jackson, Birmingham, and probably a few more.

I just disagree. If mall city in baton rouge is getting destroyed, I dont see the OTers uniting to save it Same with the 9th ward

a riot in New Orleans would be interesting as far as logistics go. Does each ward have their own neighborhood riot or all just pick a ward to riot in. The scary thing is that the NOPD would be so late to respond that the riots would have worn themselves out

I sort of alluded to that earlier, few if any southern cities have done more to embrace diversity and acceptance, Montgomery and Atlanta were pretty similar cities at the height of the civil rights movement in the '60's and for whatever reason Atlanta decided to accept change and move forward, and Montgomery decided to keep Montgomerying, look at the difference in the two cities now

And that is not to say Atlanta doesn't have race issues. Obviously Atlanta has a big black population and it has plenty of black poverty and black crime and ghetto areas.

But it also has a huge black population that may live in undesirable areas from my perspective, but which are not the "food desert" type of ghettos you have in other cities. We have those ghettos too, but that's not where most of the black people live. Riverdale, which is a complete shithole where violence could occur, has a Home Depot and Wal Mart and chain restaurants.

Anyway, those things could burn in riots, but Atlanta is just a totally different dynamic. There isn't a comparable city in the country. Houston and DC are the closest, but they're still really different.

Not many cites deeper into the Mason Dixion line than Miami. I doubt anyone calls Miami a southern city

I don't see it happening in New Orleans. If someone is killed by police, the community more times than not is quick to realize that the victim was not an innocent bystander. That's why the agitators that came down here after the Ferguson riots failed to reach their goal of instigating a riot. Why didn't Jessie Jackson or Al Sharpton come down after Jeff Parish police shot and killed the man on the Westbank last month.

Always a possibility. I guess it depends on what you think drives the rioting. If it's racism, social injustice, poverty, lack of education, no jobs ... then New Orleans is a candidate.

It could also be a crime of opportunity ... score a big screen TV, do some discount shopping.

Here's one possibility:

There would be a whole lot of PEW PEW PEW going on.

Causing said riots to quickly end.

just linked the article about that map -- and it would argue that new orleans would be less subject to that as a trigger. notice the light blue on the map.
