Lets face it, the majority of riders can’t handle their alcohol and act obnoxious and unruly while enticing the crowd to get as close as they can to the float by dangling cheap trinkets to the crowd just to get a little attention.

These riders get no affection or attention at home so they sign up and pay a lot of money to ride in these parades where they wear costumes and cover their face with the hope of seeing a tit or some girl or guy wink at them just so they can get off.

You see it at every parade, slob with his face covered throwing fake money or holding an oversized stuffed animal with his bodily fluids probably all over it, dangling it over the float begging for the crowd to run over to him just so he can feel important for a few hours. Just read the comments following the accident tonight. Nothing but disregard for human life and not an ounce of sympathy for the victim. Get a grip folks. Nobody gives a shite about your 2 cent trinket when somebody just died.

This disgusting behavior needs to be stopped for the public’s safety and the only way for that to happen is to ban riders from drinking alcohol while on their floats. Hopefully Latoya will take action.

Hey....the fact that someone gambled their life and lost for the sake of one of those 2 cent trinkets implies it means more than that.

Mardi Gras is the definition of institutional racism

We all know this

Seriously, how many POC (I'm giving you black, Latin, and Asian) are in Bacchus or tucks or nyx or muses? Do they even hit 5%?

It took a lot of effort to write that up nice try.

Don't think you can break the record for downvotes though.

Friend,

Couldn’t agree with you more wholeheartedly. That anyone thinks they need alcohol to have a better time is evidence that Big Alcohol and its mob distributors have brainwashed the easily led masses. The opiates of the people in our time and culture are alcohol and sports entertainment.

I am having an absolutely marvelous Mardi Gras, as always. I haven’t needed one drop of alcohol. My senses, thinking and decision making have all been sharp. My memories are being formed without any extrinsic chemicals to fool or stunt their development. Without the delirious side effects of that evil drug I am able share mirth and merriment with everyone.

Having full control of one’s faculties makes Mardi Gras and life far better. I wish more would try it.

Sincerely,
TulaneLSU

My dear Friend, Rouge,

You put it as succinctly as is possible. The true joy of life comes from clean living, generosity, and art. Mardi Gras becomes a distorted reflection of its true self when alcohol and drugs are introduced.

Faith, Hope, and Love,

we must diligently remind ourselves that the purpose of the Mardi Gras season is to appropriately prepare our mind, body, and spirit for the true blessings of the Lenten season.

Friend,

If we all could fashion our lives with the liturgical calendar how much greater would our world become!

The smells, tastes, visual splendors, equality of the individual and communal bonding of Mardi Gras give us a foretaste of heaven.

The drunkenness, sexual depravity, littering, foul language, and spot claiming with ladder rows, tarps and tents along the route remind us how fallen our world is.

New Orleans is such a contradiction.

Yours,
TulaneLSU
