It's a tiny university with very limited degree program options compared to most public universities. They don't even have an undergraduate business school.

It's a good option for Engineering. I'm not sure it's really worth it if your child plans to go to law school or medical school.

And Rice tries to position their Economics program in their Social Sciences College as being equivalent to a Finance degree in a Business school, which it is not.

Tuition is $72k a year…….it is also more expensive than most Ivy League schools. Btw, enrollment is 8k vs Harvard at 30k.

Harvard has 21k students, and 2/3rds are grad students.

Congrats to your son. An excellent institution that will open many doors if he gets his degree.

Depends on what he wants? Not a big college experience. Lots of Asians, indians, and middle easterners.

Great school, you can always spot a Rice kid as they are all a little "different" for better or worse.

Whenever I'm in Houston, I basically go out of my way to walk around their campus. It's stunning really..

if i were him and i got into Rice i assume i can get into Duke, UNC, Notre Dame, UCLA, Virginia, etc.

id want more of a college town and cool campus vibe vs a tiny asian school in Houston. All depends on how much they are giving me.

True, Duke, Rice, Emory, UVA, UNC, and Vandy are the elites in the south for academics. Very impressive for Emory to be so prestigious without a football program, Johns Hopkins too.

When you think about it, Alabama’s academic reputation skyrocketed for what it is after the Saban years. Vandy has literally taken advantage of it without any contributing revenue share.

I feel like without the SEC, Vandy would be more like Tulane in terms of reputation. Not many in academic circles really respects it. It just gets such high acceptance rate yields (and higher in us news rankings) because of football and being in a nice city like Nashville.

Sad but true.

I visited Rice with my daughter ( 40 yrs ago, yikes!) and was very impressed with the campus and setting...we got about 50% scholarship, but she chose Stanford in the end and has never looked back....agree a Rice degree carries a lot of weight.

Congratulations on the acceptance. My son was also accepted into Rice a few years back however the cost was too prohibitive. Our thought was go under grad somewhere more reasonable if not for free and then go big for grad school.
