How much hunting is done at Yellowstone?

Not saying the majority of these hunters aren’t potential douche bags, but to suggest they aren’t supporting the species as a whole, as well as the locals is wrong.

Hey, I said a couple

People forget the difference between a good hunt and a dentist hiring a shady guide that baits a random lion that happened to be a research animal.

While the statement is not entirely accurate, Yellowstone and other parks and preserves do benefit from monies earned from hunting permits, stamps and licenses nationwide. Even if they do not allow hunting within the parks.

Some of this big game hunting is beyond me. A guy on one of our white tail hunts was explaining how he killed a water buffalo on safari in Africa. He was acting kind of proud and sort of bragging. Said he walked up within 50 yds of it and had to shoot it several times before it died (with blood gushing out the whole time). I was speechless as to how someone could enjoy such a thing.

Cape buffalo are some bad arse mofos. Never done it myself and no real desire to - but the moment you shoot it there are only two outcomes - he dies or you do. So you better keep shooting.

Must have been a white rhino target. Otherwise, this doesn't make news.

That’s because the white rhinos have been hunted to near extinction by the native Africans

I've never heard of any significant funding for National Parks coming from hunting licenses or permits. And I don't know how all of them are, but Barataria Preserve and Big Thicket, both managed by the National Park Service and allowing hunting, issue free permits.

Conservation honestly can make good use of hunting certain specimens.

Helping to remove older males so the younger generation of another pride can come in and take over for a bit will strengthen the gene pool instead of letting it withered and becoming susceptible to disease or genetic ailments from inbreeding.

There are only 14,000 lions left on earth. That's down from 200,000 in 1950 because of "big game hunters." Lions are extinct in 26 African countries. No amount of conservation will save them. Their numbers are too small.
