At no point in American history has the divorce rate been as high as it is today. Amongst conservative Christians, agnostics, you name the segment. Come on, Man.

And so are the home equity loans of 37 year olds. It's all the same! Poor planning ISN'T generational. It's individual.

And generally, most individual boomers made bad decisions at a much higher rate than the generations before them and after them.

You are quickly becoming one of the worst posters on this site.

And who do you think raised these kids to believe that it is alright to believe that marriage is a throw away thing? Don’t like your spouse? Just throw him/her away and get another one!

So we just shouldn't take averages and generalize segments of society? Are you against statistic, that's the only thing I can gather here?

Fortunately, my folks did well they aren't going to need my help. One thing is for sure, my house = my rules. I will make my father grow his hair long and get an earring. Since he always gave me crap.

I couldn’t think of a more fitting end for the shittiest generation in American history.

I guess it's all in how you look at it.

The baby boomer years includes those born between 1946 - 1964. Men were coming home from WWII and they started having families. Technology was changing the landscape of the US. Think about how fast things changed. All of a sudden, there were multiple appliances that became standard in households, that changed how people lived.

People were moving to suburbs in droves, into houses that had washer and dryers, refrigerators, etc.. Then, during the war, women were working in manufacturing, etc.. When the war was over, all of a sudden the "American life" was created. People got married and had kids. The husband/father went to work while the wife/mother stayed home and took care of the kids, cooked, etc.

People didn't talk about their problems. It wasn't easy to get a divorce, etc.. In summary, I think a lot of the actions from the baby boomers were due to their experiences in the home. They didn't want to live like their parents.. They didn't want to be miserable while having to pretend to be the perfect family.

Not to mention, the baby boomers were the ones who had to go fight in a bullshite war in which the government forced people to join the military. The Vietnam war is probably more responsible for the spike in drug usage, at the time, more than anything else. There were several issues there, that played a big role in baby boomers as we know them..

You're so full of shite. Did you think no one was going to doublecheck your claim? The orange line is divorce, peaking between 1980 and 2000, when Boomers were in their prime divorce years.

Ive definitely told my wife that they will not be able to make it without a complete 180 and a lot of good luck health wise and in the markets. Luckily her brothers would be more willing to take them in so I don't think I will have to.

My father in law turns 62 this year - they will have a high school senior, and no college savings for four years. I believe they owe 7 years on their home. My wife's older brother (not the one in HS) and I have advised them to sell their home, take the equity and get something much smaller and use their $2800 mortgage toward building at least a small nestegg.

But every excuse in the book is being used to stay in their 4000 sf home.

somehow this board will blame the millennials for this

There's nothing to blame. Humans have been assisting their older parents forever. This is really a non-story.

So you'll be front and center in tomorrow's daily "a single millenial said some dumb shite on twitter" thread to explain to your geriatric peers who are suspiciously absent from this thread how painting an entire generation with a broad brush is a fallacy?

Assisting with health, daily life, of course.

Not the same as financial support. This is most definitely a story.
