Since 1865, every conflict the US military has fought in has been on foreign soil… on virtually every continent… but we were fighting “globalization” then? Thank you for you and your family’s service, but It’s the same as it ever was.
I don’t disagree, but my outlook is way different now then it was when I was 18. I had a rosier view and believed that everyone loved America and being an American as I did. I thought we were all doing the right thing.

Smedley Butler might have been a dirty pinko, but he was all too right when saying, "war is a racket".

As long as AF or Space Force, I wouldn't have a problem. My daughter, no pics, has served going on 7 years as a flight medic.

Good buddy of mine was offered an exorbitant monthly salary to work as a PMC in you know where. He is also a weirdo who misses combat, so I guess he'll make a fortune or die.
A guy from my hometown did a tour in Vietnam, then went SF and back to Vietnam on a SOG recon team. That wasn't enough so he signed on with the Rhodesian SAS and fought in the bush wars until the early eighties. Last I heard he ended up a safari guide in South Africa.

a weirdo who misses combat,
It’s fricked up because it’s awful but it’s also pretty fricking great. It took the birth of my daughter to break me of that nasty war habit.
There are a lot of folks like your friend. It’s twisted and convoluted but…

they wouldn't want me back now.
I'm at least twice as mean and ornery now than I was during my 3 years as a Drill Sergeant. My give-a-frick was pretty low then, now it's totally nonexistent.

If we were to get into an existential conflict with China or Russia?
Yes, absolutely. But short of that, no.

$5 million in an untaxable lump sum to even consider.

I miss being a tank commander on a M1A2 Abrams tank. Even though I'm retired, if we ever needed an old broke down tanker for a mission, I'd answer the call.
I retired Dec 31, 2016.

What if they sent ya to Ukraine?

I have no idea how hard it would be to get back in if you retired. I’m drawing my pension and not even sure how that would work. Regardless…. I’m 50 and served 30 years…. Would not go back into active service. Might consider a contractor role, but the money would have to be incredible.

Only Air Force, Space Force or Coast Guard.

Already have. I know 4 baws that would have made some really good officers. They all possessed great grades, athletic, and smart. All of them considered OCS/ROTC up until latter part of HS and will not be applying to OCS after college. none are vaxxed and don't plan on it.
Supporting Austin LLoyd and Pedo Peter has consequences.

What would entice you back into enlisting?
Also, I personally would not recommend to any individual to serve in uniform at this current juncture.

Advantages:
1. Can get gender reassignment surgery and/or cross dress
2. Can have pronouns
3. Can sashay around base
Disadvantages:
1. Going to Ukraine
2. Going to Middle East
3. Going house to house in America
Weighing it all, I will decline being cannon fodder or molested for this country at this juncture.
