I run a concession stand for a youth facility, and we accept credit cards, and don't charge a fee. And that restaurant is making much more money than we are.
Does your mortgage payment depend on that concession stands profits? What a stupid comparison

Related but different. Big cheezy in Kenner charges you full price nearly 3 dollars for tap water. Literally refused to get anyone in my family a drink out of principle. Will never go back. People are willing to pay 9 to 12 bucks for a grilled cheese and you want to hit them with a charge on terrible tap water.
I try to stay away from places that charges for refills on fountain drinks as well.
Back to your point, its bs. Accepting a credit card is a cost of doing business and cash is slowly dying. These places need to just up their cost elsewhere to avoid ppl like me blacklisting.

We take all cards and merchant fees are just a part of our expenses. Charging a set line item fee for using a credit card is penalizing the customer. It’s a piss poor business practice and is generally forbidden by the merchant processor. The businesses that do charge a fee risk penalties (albeit minor ones), but they’re seldom enforced. After all, the processor skims off on that extra fee as well. It’s a shady game.
It’s a bitch to see how much I pay in processing fees each year, but it’s a necessary evil as more and more customers use cards over cash from year to year. As rewards programs become more generous, fees increase.

So in other words charge you the same but not tell you about it?
How do you people not see the idiotic logic you're using?

So you'd rather pay the fee all the time rather than only when the fee is incurred. That's pretty stupid, but based on your post I'm not surprised

how difficult is it to pay cash? hell, "theres an ATM over there".

It's not new. Let the free market do its thing.
Well, they are violating their credit card agreement with the company and risk losing all credit card business, which would be devastating to almost any restaurant, so it is VERY MUCH new.

If his mortgage payment / rent depends on credit card fees, he will be out of business pretty soon.

cannot charge a fee for paying with a credit card.
Yeah, it costs everyone more, regardless of how they pay, because it goes into the cost and is marked up. It has to. Nobody knows if someone is going to drop in and buy a .99 cent Dr. Pepper or a 30 dollar meal. If someone comes comes in to buy a Dr. Pepper at .99 cents and pays with a card, they just cost them 2 dollar just for stopping by to grab a soft drink. They not only made nothing of the deal, but it cost them money for said customer to darken their doorstep. It’s more ludicrous to take exception to a 2.00 fee attached to your bill when you pay with a credit card than it is to accept higher prices to cover the cost of CC fees.
You can always go to the store next door and take money out the ATM with your card, but alas, there’s that fee again. I wonder why.

Do you have any idea how much cash I would have to carry for daily business transactions? Should I pay for my flight in cash? The hotel? The rental car? Where does it stop?

You do realize there are CC processors out there that only charge a percentage, not a flat fee, right?

They'd get better responses if they instead offered a cash discount. Incentivize people to use a different payment method rather than discourage them from using another.
It's literally the exact same thing.

Well I'm gonna start asking to have it taken off. If they dont comply I will pee on the wall of bathroom.

Does Edward Jones reimburse for meals or does that have to come out of your pocket? I'm curious.

You're more than welcome to pay the fee. The people that use cash causing the business to incur less costs get a discount. Is it really that hard for you to understand? This happens all the time in business. Net 60 98/net 30.

You do realize this isn’t always the case, and whether it’s a percentage or a flat fee, it still has to come off their bottom line and is a cost of doing business regardless of what it is?
I love how people like to determine what a restaurant;s GPM should be and what they can absorb and what they can’t.

Next time I pay in cash, I'm going to demand a 2.75% discount. What do you think they will tell me?
