This sucks, but it's a reality for A LOT of people across this country. Businesses can't afford to pay employees if they're not open.
Certainly not right for a business the size of Chili's, and they should have done more.

I can think that it would be helpful for ME to know, but not for the employer to tell me.
It sucks all the way around and I'm really not making excuses for the restaurant but telling them before is a good way to have no workers show up to clean the restaurant.

Doesn’t work that way, you can’t tell people you’ll be fired tomorrow. Half the staff will slip and fall and now you can’t fire them

Not only fricked up, but quite illegal. Several jurisdictions have already ruled that servers must make normal minimum wage while doing prep/side work. Doing custodial work when there are zero customers will be a no brainer for any court this would find. If the business owners have any sense whatsoever, they pay them a full wage (plus overtime) as backpay and hope it all does away.

Lesson learned. When u think a company is about to frick you. They are.
Been around for 2 hospital shutdowns. When the CEO of the facility makes the “everything’s fine” tour. Get the resume’ ready and prepare. Don’t do any extra and depending on the company size no overtime.

But I saw a meme that said eat local, the chilli's will survive. Sorry, but franchises like that have way more of an economic impact in states than the local place with under 30 employees.
