You’d be surprised. I’ve met people from all over the world in McComb and Natchez. Europeans, Australians, lots of Kiwis.

I hate community tables. I do not want to sit with strangers. my friend took me to Theo's in Shreveport knowing it had community tables. So, who sits by us ... downtown schizo man with his b.o. and headphones. Told my friend not to greet him, so of course he ignored my request. When he does, the man goes into a ten minute mumbly, slobbering rant, expressing a unique view on many issues, including his dislike of the white man.

How bout the Round Table that was in Mendenhall and still present Walnut Hills in Vicksburg. Both go back decades.
There was also a Round Table in Columbia. 40 miles East of McComb on Hwy 98 but it closed sometime before Katrina.
Was like going back in time. Old black ladies would cook and serve the food and you would have a mix of nearly every social status breaking bread together.
ETA - looks like it remained open well past Katrina but burned in early 2015.

There's a road out toward the Lynyrd Skynyrd crash site called Lazy Heifer Lane. Would love to know it's back story.

Still do, Buckners. Been there once, wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

That place was as authentic as it gets. I thought it closed and got torn down. Either way it was the best of the bunch, along with a nearby restaurant Aymar’s and also Leathea’s in Foxworth MS.

Yep. I’m from Columbia and knew both well. Leathea’s was victim of being bought and moved to Hattiesburg.

If I have to choose between communing with the general public vs not…I choose the ‘not’ every time. Most people today are slobs and watching fat people eat is just disgusting to me.
The Dinner Bell is an awesome experience. Sorry your life is so miserable that you aren’t able to enjoy a great meal with other people.

There's an old grocery store with a restaurant not far from me that has all you can eat catfish on Saturdays. It's a mish mash of random kitchen tables, dining tables, whatever, inside. Maybe about 6 of them. So if you wanna eat you gotta sit with others. Met a fair amount of cool people that way.

The Dinner Bell isn’t a community dining hall and they aren’t letting mentally deranged vagrants wander into the restaurant. This is McComb, Mississippi, not Mamdani Manhattan. The restaurant is in an old Victorian house.

People are quietly, and sometimes unknowingly, yearning for human connection. Social Media and Online Connectivity are fighting that urge. It’s ok to put down the phone and walk outside.
