Resigning from my job tomorrow

So, got a new gig doing pharma sales, and passed the background check. I have a manager of 3 months I utterly despise. His boss is cool as shite and lives in my area, to where I intend to hand over my two weeks notice directly to him.
If I want my immediate boss fired and want to keep a good recommendation in the future from his boss, how should I handle it? Really he's so bad the other employees are openly talking about interviewing elsewhere, and I'm simply the first of everyone to leave this company. Should I keep my trap shut knowing it's a virtual certainty he will be canned by the 4th of July, or should I say something to his boss on the way out the door and risk his recommendation for future jobs?

He's not gonna say anything negative about you unless he is dumb as frick.

Adding this segment seems like you are surprised or that you shouldn't have...

I'm not surprised by it, but you would be if you knew what they checked for in a background check. If you made the wrong purchase and have outstanding debt from another state, that can reek havoc on your resume.

Say nothing about the direct supervisor. I'm a firm believer, and have seen it play out EVERY time: Give 'em enough rope and they'll hang themselves.
Just simply say you have found a more "comfortable fit". Anyone smart enough to be management should be able to figure it out with just the one simple and mild clue.

I've told him that my manager is "highly intense". Went to meet a new Controller a few weeks ago, and he said he was glad to meet her since a Beverly was clearly a much nicer person than a Reed who was the Controller before her. It turns out Reed was her father and she inherited the position. Didn't get the deal because of it. Just an arrogant arse.

I've worked for some idiotic sales managers. When everyone leaves upper management will get the hint.

I don't think you should say shite, man. Don't burn any bridges on the way out was what my dad always told me.

Sales in the medical field is a small world. If you don't have to burn any bridges, don't do it. You never know when you might have to phone in a favor

I know that, but I'm currently in software sales. Wouldn't do it if I were going in the same industry.

Why leave software to go into pharma? Pharma is not exactly known for its stability.

The guy is a douche. So what? You said it yourself he won't make it through July 4th. I don't think you would feel good about yourself if you found out he was fired on Monday. Think about it. Let someone else do the dirty work. Or read the karma thread.

They care about your debt and finances because if you're in debt, you'd be more likely to sell out your organizations secrets/information for the right price.

Much higher base and the product I'm going to be selling really sells itself. Far more relaxing and for higher pay than I'm currently getting. And at worst, I can go back to software. Granted I have a cap here unlike software, which fricking blows, but the cap is enough for me to live the life I want to live.

Yep, take the high road and don't look back. If he gets canned, then he gets canned. If not, saying something negative probably wouldn't have changed their minds at that time anyway.

Welcome to the oh so glamorous world of useless reports and catering......uh, I mean pharma sales.
20 year vet here - if you want any advice or info, give me your email and I'd be happy to help a newbie out.
85% of pharma company bullshite is the same no matter the company, your real job satisfaction will come from what kind of DM you have.
And there is not one single product that "sells itself" no matter what they tell you in the interview - the local medical environment politics, managed care, and other mundane bullshite can render a great drug a dog.
Your drug can be better in every single way than your competitor's but if the rep for that competing drug is an old dog who is buddies with the important docs - your better efficacy, safety, and price won't matter at all.
My competitor's drug is objectively better than mine but I am kicking their arse in market share and NRx growth simply because I've been in my territory 20 years and he's been around 3 years.
Seriously, I'd be happy to give you any advice or help, just let me know.

I spent 10 years in pharma, before moving over to device sales 3 years ago, and everything you posted is 100% correct.

You are lucky, depending on the company, many skip over any pharma applicants that aren't specifically recommended.
