New research from GOBankingRates says that Mississippi is the best place to move to live the American Dream, as long as you and your spouse make at least $107,000 a year.
If you are making this in Louisiana you are either self employed or work in a family business

As a product of (West) St. Louis County, where the cost of living is very low, healthcare is great, and public education is excellent, I can tell you it is fantastic to grow up in that type of environment. I never really wanted for anything and my parents made probably a little over $100k most of my life.
The bigger issue is getting outside that low cost of living bubble. College is fricking expensive. Even if you achieve at a high level, unless you have a certain background, you are not getting into an excellent school for less than full freight. And if you are like my wife and go to a school in a big city where cost of living is exceedingly high, your parents can't afford to keep you in your shite. At least if you live in Houston or Dallas or Chicago, you can try to mitigate the cost of living while making more money. You aren't making more money in St. Louis.

One major factor is not being considered here. Sure, you may have a nice house in a nice area. But you still have to pay for private school, and you still have to go get groceries, services, etc among the ‘locals’. It’s inescapable, just like in all of the other dirty parts of the south.

Problem is the lack of culture and after a while, you get tired of the same 25 restaurants.

Town I graduated High School in has one grocery store and those trips to the store cost double then a trip to Wal-Mart which happens to be 30 miles away.
