Do you have anything to say on the subject of leaving law abiding citizens alone and trying to curtail the mental health problem?

You can say, "If these guys didn't have a gun....", and I can say, "they would've used some other means". I can also make a comment pertaining to them having available mental health help, and that possibly improving all aspects of their lives

Eta: How many people do you think will agree on an outright ban on a guns? Yeah, that's a waste of time. How many people do you think will agree that having readily available mental health clinics would benefit the country? I'd bet a much larger percentage, so it would be easier to get done and not a waste of time

homicide rate with firearms decreased from 8% of homicides in 1997 to 6.6% of homicides in 2009.

This guy yesterday mentions media coverage of the VA shooter, who mentioned media coverage of the Charleston shooter, who mentioned Trayvon Martin media coverage.

Seems like a trend. Can we just ban the media?

Now post the second part of that where it says...

quote:

However, according to the UN statistics the total homicide rate of the UK remained basically the same. So those committing homicides only changed their weapon

Proving that guns aren't the issue but rather people are.

You post only one sentence out of a whole paragraph as a "gotcha" post and you accuse me of cherry picking?

Hypocrite

Now THAT'S cherry picking.

The British homicide rates spiked up and then returned to their pre-ban levels after the ban. It had no positive effect.

Also, because they don't include homicides that don't have a criminal conviction, we'll never know what their actual rate is. I suspect that's why they have that stupid policy.

We are talking about firearms. Nothing more. Correct?

No ´gotcha´ here.....

Nobody asked for that UN stat bullshite.

People are more violent now than before, is what you´re saying? I agree.

That said, I don´t think this a-hole could have bludgeoned or stabbed 15 people, do you?

CNN is reporting that the shooter delivered a box to one of the survivors with instructions that s/he must deliver the box. No other info on it. Anyone heard anything about this box?

No, he could have made a bomb and killed way more people.

There aren't that many more guns than there were 20 years ago, and a lot of the recent spikes in purchases are due to crises like this and people's fear of confiscation.

Clearly, something other than the mere presence of guns is responsible for these crimes. I think it's our increasingly superficial society.

As I've said before, society categorizes people like this as "losers," so some of them react by choosing to be "evil" rather than a loser. Evil is feared and respected. It makes people famous for a while, instead of being ineffectual and forgotten. Evil is also easy. All you need is a gun or a bomb or a car, and a crowd of people to serve as victims.

But, that problem is more complicated and possibly impossible to cure, so let's go after the guns and have the population be ruled over by the only gun-toting entities left, the police/military and the criminal underworld. No fricking thank you.

Oh I agree, I was simply keeping in line with my posting throughout the thread.

This all started when someone tried to say a poster was out of order for aligning UK fatalities in comparison to their population, with those of the US (the UK number was low double digits for a population of 55M, and the US was a very high four digits for a population of 330M).

Exactly my point, but the people wanting to use guns as the scapegoat here gloss over it every time.

Following along the lines of banning things, we would then need to ban fertilizer and also diesel. Then, because a trucker is mad and runs his truck into a building, ban big trucks

None of the gun banners see the people as the problem. They are the same exact people that blame slavery for black on black crime nowadays

Politicians would react by saying we can't hate all terrorists. He was just an outlier. People would want heads to roll. Then, the politicians would pass more ever-encroaching laws in the name of safety that the next terrorist wouldn't follow

According to the police spokesman, the shooter had a home made armored jacket with steel plates in it.

This piece of shite's mom needs to go to fricking jail. She knew her kid was fricked up and said as soon as she heard about the shooting she had a bad feeling. Thanks mom. You raised a fricking degenerate sociopath and had every sign hitting you in the face. Eat a bullet.
