Anyone who has paid attention to this issue dispassionately knows there is little appetite for actual forgiveness.

Of the 538 in the legislature I’d be surprised if even 30 would actually cast the deciding vote for SL forgiveness if they were in that position.

Biden wants congress to do it because he’s actually not interested at all in SL forgiveness. Congress wants biden to do it because the congressional leaders know they aren’t even close to having the votes.

It’s not happening anytime soon if ever.

He’s probably more likely afraid of being rejected in federal court.

Where does the money go when tuition increases are significantly higher than inflation and nothing new is being taught and the university's endowment has quadrupled?

I do lol at the people who haven't paid a single loan while it has been in deferment tho. It is such an awesome opportunity to pay them down with no interest but alas

I'm budgeting the payment every single month, and have all my payments I would have made as a separate amount. I only have like 2k in debt at this point though.

I love how liberals say this is the best economy in 40 years while also saying we need to freeze student loans because of the economic hardship. If this doesn't open the eyes of voters I honestly don't know what will.

This administration panders to the liberal millennial population in large metro areas. That’s how they got elected so they have to push it out until at least mid terms are over.

I'm of the opposite opinion. I lol at anyone willingly paying money back that they don't have to when interest is 0%. If they extend it again I don't think payments ever actually start again

I haven't touched mine since March 2020

Same people that call "A college education is an investment in our future!" If there is not enough ROI to pay for it, it's a terrible "investment".

Most of the people begging for "forgiveness" don't understand interest. Seemingly, they didn't even understand they had to pay the LOAN back.

I asked the question earlier as a genuine financial dumbass, why should I pay on a zero minimum, zero interest debt unless I have no other debt to pay on?

There's no reason for them to restart payment on it. They can't go full bore with forgive everything like they promised, but sending the bill collectors out again is going to piss off their base who really counted on this debt going away.

I'm of the opinion that payments will not be due again under this administration. As long as the value of a dollar is on the free fall, why pay on it right now?

It would depend on a host of things - what is your disposal income, what is your other debt.

In a vacuum, you pay down debt at zero interest to avoid a larger payment when interest kicks back in.

Absolutely.

I wanna say Joe even came out and said he wasn't forgiving student loans.

I understand the frustrations (and agree with them). Im selfishly hoping this gets put off until next may. I have one more year teaching at my current school to put in to get $17,500 canceled. After that’s taken care of I can refinance/consolidate to cut my payments a good bit to take care of the rest.

Have you looked at PSLF versus the TEPSLF to see if you would benefit more under PSLF?
