I will preface this with the fact that as the father of a daughter, I have always thought of these competitive cheer gyms with male coaches have been a little sketchy, so this does not surprise me.

Right around that time the USOC implemented a mandatory "Safe Sport" certification for all coaches that worked with USOC junior members.

I just assume every coach in sports like these are sexual predators.

I know a girl who was a gymnast in college and very very good when she was younger. She was sexually abused from the age of 9-15...It was manipulation and they completely frick with those girls' minds. She's in the middle of a lawsuit with about 6 other gymnasts currently against the old coach. It's a shitshow

Do you think they are child predators BEFORE they become affiliated with something involving children? Or, do they become affiliated with something like gymnastics and THEREAFTER develop the proclivity to be a petter-arse?
It seems like it would be a lot of work to become a nationally recognized coach just so you could diddle some 14 year olds. I don't know though. I've never had the urge to diddle 14 year old girls (except, of course, when I WAS 14 years old)

Sexual deviance is usually either inherent within an individual or is the direct result of some form of trauma experienced during puberty and early adolescence. Ergo, an adult would already have such sexual attractions and intrigue instilled within them prior to engaging in any sort of setting which might "enable" such inappropriate behavior to supposedly arise.
Your theoretical circumstance would be similar to an adult male who is suddenly exposed to a male-dominated environment and consequently succumbs to homosexual behavior. The argument in that case would be that the male's attraction to other men arises through close interaction with other males or exposure to homoerotic tendencies (e.g. being around other males in a locker room).
