I don't think that word means what you think it means.

They shouldnt get rid of tops but they should make tougher requirements to keep it. At least a 3.0

Considering that Louisiana is approximately 63% white population, this is a non-story

It's just another way to frick the middle class. The government does not want a middle class.

Where there is no middle class, there is war.

Yeah, when I tell these peeps in CA that my kid gets free tuition at LSU, they are amazed. No reason for the State to be paying my kid's tuition.

Well then don't fill out the FAFSA form this year and solve your problem.

It should be based on SAT or ACT scores. A 2.0 GPA at a great Catholic school is probably better than a 3.5 GPA at a ghetto high school. It really is the only fair way.

So by making a certain score on the ACT and making above a certain GPA is racist?

Except the article did not state that or even make any commentary about that.

The title insinuated it. Don't be stupid.

Thanks to quotas and Affirmative Act....er, I mean "diversity," in most cases, any black students who meet the TOPS requirements will be getting paid to go to some expensive private school.

A family making $70,000 is hardly affluent. Making anything less than $150,000 if you have multiple children still makes college tough to afford without loans

Probably.

They want the chance to go to college and frick off for a while then quit thus pissing away thousands in taxpayer funds. I'm sure they'll go to fine institutions with low, or no, admission standards.

Community colleges are absolutely begging for TOPS standards to be lowered so they can make a quick buck.

This. After paying taxes to support the less "affluent" there ain't much left.

Seems like the idea behind TOPS was to keep the intelligent, educated kids in the LA work pool. We have plenty of the others already.

Needs testing for TOPS....

It's coming...

This is the subtle point of the article.

No, it was to continue subjugating black and brown people by keeping white people rich through free higher ed.
