Her: Which one?

Me: ....The burger

Guaranteed she thinks she deserves $15/hour when I can argue she deserves way less for what she does

Good, all the broke asses who are crying can get a $15 raise, and then lose their job to robots making burgers. Then when their unemployed arse goes to mcdonalds to get a burger they can cry about it being $5 instead of $1. I honestly cant wait for this to blow up

It blew up in Illinois in the form of empty storefronts and a severely distressed retail economy. They hiked minimum wage for 2019 and 2020. The impact was nearly immediate and pre-dates Covid.

The local politicians just blamed it on POTUS despite the state having a much higher than average unemployment rate. The media carried their water. The Covid hit and destroyed much of what was left.

If raising the minimum wages = solving the poverty issue, wouldn't it happened already by now?

I hear that high school kids are the only ones that should be making minimum wage so it's not that big a deal.

$15/hr in small town alabama, louisiana, or mississippi is an absurd pipe dream for minimum wage.

This would destroy a lot of what was already barely hanging on from the Covid-related economic sanctions. And it wouldn't be limited to small towns. Suburban areas in places like Baton Rouge would get smoked too.

Absolutely. I think 1.4M is a way low number on how many would lose jobs over this, but if you factor in how many of these type businesses will go under, that 1.4M is hilariously low.

I'll say it again. The left has zero grasp of basic economics.

We need to do a better job of teaching economics at an earlier age so maybe more people will understand the implications of economic policy decisions.

ceteris paribus of course.

But they'll call you racist and a "bad person" for "not wanting people to receive a living wage" as you present fact based, economic research and examples showing how big of a disaster it will be.

Also the cost of goods rises so it really won't NET much even for those getting the raises.

They haven't raised minimum wage since 2009 when it went from 6.55 (in 2008) to 7.25. Before that the increase didn't happen for a decade when it went from 5.15 in 1997 to 5.85 in 2007.

They should have passed something in the interim if they wanted it so bad. But now 11 years later, we're going to raise it from 7.25 to 15 fricking dollars?!

Starbucks/Burger King/Circle K/etc prices will triple in 2 weeks and half of everybody in retail will be unemployed. House construction prices will rise. Everything planned for commercial construction in anything will be out of budget and everything will be fricked up.

But for 1/4 of the people still keeping their jobs - well, hey man. Congrats. You finally got $15 an hour.

Whereas the people already making enough where they can absorb the increases will see their wealth rise through old investments paying bigger dividends in the short term.

Massive min wage hikes demonstrably hurt the poor and help the rich.

We have to do what's morally right, not what makes sense. If millions of people are put out of work, it's the price we have to pay for justice.

Exactly, think about the people that will still be employed and benefiting from this. For the unemployed, we can just revamp the federal handouts and then everyone will be covered again. We can then just tax the fewer people working even more to pay for it all.

I want to know where all this money we are printing is going if people still need higher wages. It wouldn’t surprise me if we have massive inflation and depression on the horizon.

They are afraid everyone would realize that we don't need their stupid policies if they didn't actually create the problems to begin with.

And the funniest part about it to me, is that none of the people making $15/hour are the ones that will be retained!

Starting off with a bang with the people now in power thinking every business is some massive corporation. That didn't take long.
