Replacing an A/C compressor clutch

‘06 Honda Civic Si. A/C has been out ever since I got it back in March. The compressor clutch will not engage when the A/C is turned on. It’s starting to get hot here in ATL so I’m trying to tackle this job now.
The compressor is partially blocked by the subframe so I had to unbolt it from the block to get at it at an angle after taking the fender well splash guard off. I’ve managed to take the clutch plate off and first snap ring but am having a hard time snapping off the pulley. Tried hammering from various angles but no luck. I’m starting to get very frustrated.
Any baws have similar experiences? I don’t want to resort to a crowbar.

Did you buy some kind of puller tool? I think you're supposed to use one.

you may very easily pull out the front seal on the compressor if not very, very careful. If you do that then a new compressor will be needed. Even though I used to be a diesel mechanic and was certified in A/C work, I will not attempt to change out any parts of my trucks a/c system. It is easier and in the long run cheaper to have a trained service tech with all the correct tools and manuals on your particular model.

Better off replacing the compressor, flushing system, vacuuming the system down, putting new expansion valve, and putting in correct pag oil and coolant.
Just need manifold gauges and a vacuum pump.
Not that hard to do.

This is very common with Honda of that age. Happened to me but wasn’t that expensive of a fix

its a simple electrical magnet, nothing ever goes wrong with them so did you read on the internet about what parts to change?
because i never saw where you said you checked the fuses or tested for voltage or used a multi-meter to test the clutch.
most common is the pressure switch is open because its low on freon or it went bad.
that said, to remove the clutch you have to use a puller much like a harmonic balancer puller

Just buy a new Densi compressor for like $250 or a generic one for $100. Either rent or buy your purge vacuum. Also on most FWD and AWD, it’s a lot easier if you take the front bumper off, take out the condenser and radiator and come in from the front. And since your clutch is failing, just go ahead and change out the condenser. I did a Honda Odyssey ac job with denso compressor, evaporator, expansion valve, condenser for like $600.

You should be able to get a brand new compressor from ebay motors for about $100.

If you want to try to do it right, get a removal tool that gently removes it. You will also need a press tool that gently re-installs it. But it's probably too late.

Call your local radiators Inc. You may be surprised to see how much the entire compressor costs. 1800radiator is also a good company but you need to have an account with them.

Are you 100% is the compressor? Low freon and a bad switch can make the ac boy come on, as can a bad fan.
