The race hustlers just come up with new ways to get money.

There's no confusion whatsoever. This is nothing more than the typical groups blaming irrelevant issues for their failures because they refuse to address the actual problem. This is intentional and these people deserve absolutely zero benefit of any doubt.

That makes no sense for a street built in the 1980s to have a Union/Confederate name.

I think it’s pretty badass. It’s the entire neighborhood. And it’s a massive neighborhood.
Posted on 12/6/21 at 11:06 pm to The Boat
Where did the dual names come from, if the neighborhood did not exist till the 80s?

Baw you need to read a book
Posted on 12/6/21 at 11:09 pm to The Boat
Or you could just explain it

Dude it is called HISTORY. All of these battles were called one name by the Union army and one name by the confederacy. This dude lives on a street named after a Confederate battle but to be cute he tells people he lives on a street named after the union term for said battle. We are not curing cancer here bud.

Remember when a group in New Orleans had General DeGaulle on the list of offensive names ??? Hilarious.

Was Shenandoah not named for the geographical valley? What does that have to do with racism?

That doesn't explain why a street built in the 1980s would be called by a different name than it is actually named.
You missed the joke. He lives on a street actually named for a union victory. He calls it after the name of a confederate loss. Because pretending to hang onto confederate values is funny. Get it?

It’s the opposite. It’s a Union street but I call it the Confederate counterpart name. Because we’re gonna rise again. Or something.

The battle it’s named after was a confederate victory

It doesn’t work that easily.
The neighborhood residents have to vote on it to change it.
And something tells me that that vote isn’t gonna go for the change.
And rightfully so. That way some Jack arse council or mayor can’t come in and just name neighborhoods to whatever they want

I would get it if the neighborhood itself had some historical significance related to the Civil War. As you explain it, it just seems like you are going out of your way to be a faux-jackass.

I'm offended. I am a real jackass.

Researchers also found that having streets and neighborhoods with names tied to the Confederacy — like in Southdowns, Shenandoah and the Hermitage area off Gardere — can limit the economic incentives, negatively impact Baton Rouge's regional and national reputation and weaken the city-parish's ability to retain the next generation of young talent.
Show me this research. Because I am going to say that the massive amount of murders and violent crime cause all of the issues cited much more than street names.

Thank goodness. Crime is crippling our Southdowns community. I’m glad the Mayor is sending in some stooge to change the names and create an economic opportunity for some of the people in the neighborhood.
Also yeah, the record murders in NBR are fine, Baton Rouge can’t attract business because some street names are named after confederates. LMAO

I mean it worked out great spending $500,000 to rename Lee High twice. I can't see how this could miss.
