re: Removing your own stitches

As long as the sutures have been in for long enough(arm should be 10-14 days). You can easily remove them from home, although most providers would like to eyeball it to make sure there is no signs of infection or wound dehiscence. That is a patient preference. Having said that, it’s going to be a little more difficult to take them out of your arm, particularly if it’s your dominant side. But it can be done. BCC or SCC?

Just make sure you cut only one side of the stitch, so that when you pull on one of the free ends above the knot, the whole suture will be removed. If you accidentally cut both sides below the knot, some suture will remain under the skin.

I’ve always cut out my own stitches, usually after a couple weeks they have stretched a little and it’s not even hard to get scissors under them

Hell I put my own stitches in

Tweezers and clean toenail clippers or small pointed scissors. Good to go

it's better if you don't pull the knot through the hole.

Clean the area. Cut the suture and pull it out. Don’ leave any suture or it can get infected.

We’ve always cut ours and pulled out.
In the case of a possible cancer or biopsy I always like to go to Dr and make sure all is good.

I’d suggest watching a YouTube video first. As mentioned previously, it’s not difficult, but there’s an appropriate way to do it.

Done it several times, use nail clippers

Cut only on one side of the knot and pull out from the other side

I took six of them out myself last week. In my ankle. Simple with some nail clippers.

I've don it many times, any portion of the wound that has not fully closed (the ends of the incision tend to pucker a little), a drop of CA glue will seal it right up (only burns for a few secs).

Freehand routing will always give me the willies. I even thought if I got one of the small trim routers it would help....nope! I just hate it.
Anything that can go on the table does. Sometimes I have to use a freehand, but I don't like it and try to avoid it, and I've never had an injury like yours. I've seen a few, and that's what causes the issue.

Night of my senior prom I took stitches out of my chin
prior to picking up my date. A week or so later I got a zit where the stitches were. I squeezed that sucker and a big piece of stitches came out.

She says she's never heard of anyone doing this and thinks I'm insane.
It's done all the time. Like someone said before. Tweezers and nail clippers or something along those lines. I would be they're both cleaned properly before you do it, though. Antibacterial soap / isopropyl alcohol.

I've never went back to the Dr. to get stitches out.
