Anyone else do this?

I have 9 stitches in my arm from a skin cancer removal procedure and I told my wife (no pics) that I'm going to remove them myself in 2 weeks instead of missing time from work and letting them do it.

She says she's never heard of anyone doing this and thinks I'm insane.

All you need is a small pair of scissors and tweezers. You will be doing the same thing that they are going to do.

Done it twice this year on myself and even removed staples from my dog. I ordered these suture scissors from Amazon to do it because the fine tip makes it easier.

You are removing stitches from biopsies or removal of a mass or masses?

If biopsy? Meh.

If it was an excision? You’re crazy. You probably don’t know how deep the MD went. Let your dermatologist remove them. If you tear a small vein or decent capillary? You will be in an ER.

All bleeding stops…. Eventually.

So I’m her mind, she would rather go to the doctor just for them to basically use a medial version of tweezers and pill then out?

Yes, I have pulled sutures out before from smaller cuts that needed them.

I wouldn't mess with staples though.

The wife (no pics) just had minor surgery, and was told by the doc’s office to remove her own. They even gave her a little kit to do it with.

Yes, I used the tip of a sharp clean knife. There were no complications or pain.

I had meat literally hanging out from one of mine. It looked like hamburger meat because I hit it with a big router bit

I removed mine just fine. In fact, I probably should have done it a day or two earlier because the skin was trying to heal around the stitches which made it worse.

Here are the photo links but they are very graphic

Before stitches (Graphic)

Stitched up

The doc did a great job and it healed nicely.

This was the bit that did the damage

When I took the staples out of my dog I bought a staple removal kit from Amazon for $9. Way cheaper than another trip to the vet. The tool to remove them is easy to use. Probably easier than stitches.

Obtuse would have recommended an $8,000 German router bit that has flesh avoiding sensors in it. You screwed up.

Too bad Sawstop doesn't make routers. It was my fault for putting an aggressive bit on a palm router. Should have used my plunge router so I could ease into it and have handles to hold it. I got cocky and tried to work too fast.

Several times. Used nail clippers to cut know them pulled with tweezers.

Stitch removal is easy. Use a pair of nail clippers to cut the stitches. Pull them out with small needle nose pliers.

I've done it on myself and others. I've even removed staples. There's nothing complicated about it.

My dad often removed stitches from our busted chins, knees, etc. with a sharp pocket knife.

In high school, I sawed a cast off my arm with a hacksaw. Why waste a day driving to the city to see a doc when you have a toolbox right at home?

After kidney stone surgery they put in a foot long stent from my kidney to my bladder. They tied a suture to the end of it that came out of the end of my dick. After about a week I got to pull it out myself, which sounds terrible but looking back I wouldn’t want anyone else to do it.
