Remembering Lt Vickie Wax - 20 years today

For those old enough to remember, this is the 20th anniversary of Lt Vickie Wax’s murder while working security at the old Wal-Mart at Perkins & Acadian. It was a senseless killing and shocked the town.
I remember going to the “ghetto Wal-Mart” and seeing her and saying hello to her as I entered/left.
Keep Lt Wax’s family in your prayers today.

Was the POS’s death sentence carried out?

No. Pretty sure no one has been executed in EBR since Feltus Taylor.

Link is wrong. Near the overpass off of Acadian.

As of 2016 he was trying to get a now trial. not much after that that I can tell.
Found this obit on a Shedron Williams in 2021 but I don't think he's Vickie's killer.

Very sad. RIP.
That was not a bad part of town. It’s where Trader Joe’s is now.

That wal mart was before super wal mart was a widespread thing.
I registered to vote at a booth there back in 1999.
It was called ghetto wal mart but I don’t remember it being shittier than any other wal mart to be honest.

Where Trader Joe’s is located. Very sad.

That is horrible. Unfortunately, that area is still very ghetto. Your first sign would be to stand outside of that Trader Joe's for 5 minutes. I guarantee you hear multiple Chargers revving up their engines on Acadian or Perkins to show off how cool they are. I'm old, I know, but that is just stupid and irritating when you're trying to have brunch at Ruby Slipper.

I'm gonna be honest, in a day where time flies and everything still feels recent, that feels like much longer than 20 years ago. Maybe only because of how fast the crime in Baton Rouge has grown. I don't know, but a sad day indeed. People talk about turning points. This may have been the day that Baton Rouge actually turned the corner. It was a slow rise after that, but Baton Rouge hasn't been the same since.

She and my dad were friends. She worked the 6-12 extra duty shift on Saturdays and my dad did Sundays. What people don’t know is that the exact same scenario happened 6 days earlier to my dad. Two things saved his life. My dad carried a Glock which had the latch holster which made it difficult to remove the gun unless you were wearing it. So while the guy was struggling to get the gun unsuccessfully, a Good Samaritan jumped in and was able to get the man off of my dad and he was arrested. Vickie was more comfortable with a smaller revolver which came with no protection on the holster making it much easier for the a-hole to get the weapon.

Over a disposable camera too. I used to live off College and frequented that Walmart when I was a student. Always interesting.

Here is a photo of the killer
I’m honestly shocked Shedran “Fat Boy” Williams would do such a thing.
Fat boy was a nickname his friends called him.

When asked if he had anything to say to his family, Williams said, "I love my Momma." Williams also denied killing Lt. Wax. Then came the question of why he was on the run for so long. Williams responded, "I was scared!"

The worst part is that she was shot multiple times. The perp could have gotten away without killing her but he stood over her while she was down and shot her point blank in the head.
The manhunt was pretty fierce. Englade basically gave the order to kill him on sight. Dude was so scared he had someone call in to negotiate his surrender in a way that wouldn’t get him beat to death.

Man, I don’t remember this. But I went to that wal mart on occasion around that time. It was the most ghetto wal mart I’d ever seen. Narrow aisles and junk everywhere. It must have shut down shortly after this incident to make way for the one on College Dr.
